  • Baby Photo Feedback

I should have known that the posting of the baby photos that my Dad recently scanned would stir up the creative literary juices of my dear friend Hugo in New York City.  To wit, the following email exchange:

    From: Hugo

    Carey!

First of all, even though these pictures were only taken 23 some odd years ago, they are THE MOST beautiful of the 100′s I have of you!  Seriously though, they are beyond adorable.  I could tell in each of them which one was you as you sport that same amazing smile :).  I will make sure to look at these when I’m feeling low, and immediately smile again :)
    Thanks for sharing!

    Hugo,

You flatter me with your indulgence, but please, I beg of you, these pictures cannot leave this “private” blog!  Though my overalls were  the Baby Prada of their day, I implore you to use discretion!

    Baby Carey!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better I noticed more baby photos…., I’m flabbergasted, overwhelmed, as I type these words with awe and glee!  What beautiful pictures.  Your smile…that SMILE…hasn’t changed at all…and what a good thing this is.

I want to believe these amazing moments come to us as much through the magic of Kodak, as they do via the genius of your father!  His impromptu shots, loving eye and steady hand, could have easily made him a perennial powerhouse at the Millennium Photography Awards!  He certainly missed his calling…however, it now explains where his pride and joy of a son gains the same talent!

I love all the shots but have reasons to love them individually:

Shot #1 – What cute little brothers.  I must chide Star Trek, however, for never revealing their true inspiration of the now famous Romulan haircut.  I’ve scanned the credits to every movie and episode showcasing the reclusive enemy and nowhere is your Family mentioned.  I think a lawsuit should be considered…

Shot #2 – Twins!  if it weren’t for those FABULOUS ski sweaters, I wouldn’t know who was who.  I know your fascination with the brighter colors….I think our second call should be to the Doublemint people…there’s a commercial in this picture somewhere!

Shot #3 – That gorgeous powder blue suit and saddle shoes, were the beginning of something big.  The little gold buttons must have inspired Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 (albeit her outfit in the video was a flat black).

Shot #4 – Generations….this shot brings a tear to my eye…is this your Grandpa?  I feel like I know your family down to the bone marrow…, Mine eyes have now witnessed 4 generations of your family’s stock…..I could win Lotto today and still not be a luckier soul than that which I am right now.

Shot #5 – This has to be the cutest shot of them all….and the most revealing…..you always did have a twinkly eye for younger ones…:)..absolutely darling!

Shot #6 – Ugh!  A smoresfest at the your parents summer retreat in the mountains….or is it a wieney roast?  Either way, you’re both gorgeous in your Doublemint colored T-shirts and Converse low tops.

Shot #7 – They don’t get any cuter than this.  Winning smiles!  Winning shot!!  Two angels from Heaven!  The haircuts are Pre-Romulan, and the pajamas are definitely Pre-Teletubby…another lawsuit in the making – this one against the French…

Shot #8 – I must point out my love for your choice to place the pictures in seasonal order.  After starting with Christmas pictures, you’ve brought us back full circle into the winter.  Two litttle Eskimos enjoy a smile under their igloo…enchanting!

Shot #9 – Another heart-melting shot that evokes “The Wonder Years”.  Aaaahhhh remember when kids just built snowmen instead of playing video games, shooting fellow 3rd grade students or beating up their teachers with combination locks?  Clearly, WE lived in the best of times!

Carey….I can never thank you enough for doing what you do best – bringing a GENUINELY, large smile to my face!

    Hugo,
WHAT can I say?  Your comments by now have been forwarded to SIX continents.  The European and Asian continents were particularly enamored with #1 and #3, while Africa and South America were “rolling on the floor laughing” about #’s 2 and 6.

Once again, you’ve outdone yourself!!  Well done Hugo, well done indeed!  This one will surely go in the “Hugo Hall of Fame”.  I bow to your talents, and someday hope to be HALF the writer you are. GLY!

    Carey,

I’m speechless – and this is a rare occurrence.  …And I bow to your generosity and that of OUR many friends worldwide!  However, the pictures are the true star of this show.  It’s a much more fluid and creative writing process when the art, subject(s) and inspiration are as free as the natural expression these pictures carry.

And, I didn’t even know there was a “Hugo Hall of Fame”.  The humility I attempt on my face at the moment…well…well..it’s telling…

As for YOU being half the writer as I, CAREY, who do you think taught the squirrel to climb up the tree for nuts (so to speak), if not you.  YOU are my fabulously (YOUNGER) Yoda!

May the Force be with US!

    Hugo,

You’ve done it again.  You are the Obi Wan to my Yoda, the Lucy to my Ethel, the Abbot to my Costello, the peanut butter to my jelly.  Need I go on??

And do my eyes deceive me?  You DIDN’T know there was a Hugo Hall of Fame?  That’s like saying you didn’t know our dear friend CP was bald as an cue ball!!! Hugo, of COURSE there’s a Hugo Hall of Fame.  In fact, although the “Hall” has been a cyber Hall in year’s past, ground has broken this year on the edifice that will memorialize you for all time.  It’s going to make the Freedom Tower look like the Jefferson’s deluxe apartment in the sky!!!  It’s going to make the Justice League of America’s Headquarters look like the Batcave! Here’s the artist’s rendering.

I trust you’ll find it to your liking.  You and Lady Liberty have always had a symbiotic relationship.

    GLY!!

    Carey,

Now that I’ve wiped my face clear of tears from joy and jocularity, I must pay you absolute compliments on your forward of the artist’s rendering.  By injection alone, you are indeed the most connected socialite across our land, world and galaxy.  Undoubtedly, this rendering was passed on to you after much banging and insisting, James Bond style!  You’re like the Borg with your conquests;  ”…resistance is futile”.

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, I’ll share the rest of the news with you.  The rendering you were given only displays the south facet of the tower.  I’ll forward you the four-faceted rendering later tonight, as I have it secretly hidden on my laptop at home.  Suffice it to say, you’re displayed on the North end, the everlasting Cher is on the West End and the East facet is graced by The Lady Bunny!  Together we represent the Sage, the Rage, the Age and the Rib-Cage!  I’m sure you’ll love the pose they chose for you! :) GLY!

    To be continued…
