Virginia Tech: 33rd stone serves purpose in mourning
Letter to the Editor of the Collegiate Times, Blacksburg Virginia, by Curt Phillips, Abingdon, VA
This letter is regarding the letter “33rd stone,” (CT, April 25). I happened to visit Newman Library on Wednesday to do some research, and while on campus, I couldn’t resist walking around the Drillfield and other areas just to see for myself how the students and the school were doing these nine days after April 16. Three unidentified people look at a memorial stone adorned with flowers and other mementos for Seung-Hui Cho on the Virginia Tech campus, Sunday, April 22, 2007, in Blacksburg, Va. Thirty-three stones have been set up in a semi-circle on the edge of the Virginia Tech Drillfield made of locally quarried rust-grey “Hokie” limestone. Happy Anniversary George
1 in 40 Iraqi citizens have been murdered since you invaded their country. You lied to Congress and the American people about WMD and let your stooges like George Tenet lie to your cabinet. You are a war criminal and should be tried as such.
On the 4th anniversary of George W. Bush declaring that Operation Iraqi Freedom was “accomplished”, more than 655,000 Iraqis have been killed, and more Americans have perished than the number that died on 9/11.
George W. Bush has not attended ONE funeral
NOT ONE

I hope in the near future, there’ll be an end to this saga…
ryc: thanks for your suggestions, i think i’ll just plant something in the boxes!!
My children and I have marched many times to protest this war. We marched before it started because even my six year old, at that time, knew Bush was lying. You have a great blog.
sad.
I really like reading your words. And the song–chasing cars. I love it.
my major is currently undeclared – letters and sciences, but im thinking of transfering to an art or design major. I hear that this is kind of difficult to do at ucla though.
ryc: thanks so much for your encouraging words, I will try to make the best out of my experience at ucla, whatever i end up doing. !

We here in Canada have our own issues with a foreign war in which our soldiers are giving their lives . For so many years we stood for peace keepers and now we send tanks and conduct campaigns. I can only imagine what you in the States must be going through with the numbers you have lost. My issue with what is now happening is not the purpose of the war or it’s necessity but what happened to democracy in your country when the will of the poeple says bring them home and the President can say no. Does he represent you or does he dictate to you? Guess it’s all about oil isn’t it?
Hope all is well
Peace
Yes, it’s ALL about oil. We lose more of our civil liberties every day. The PATRIOT ACT laughs at our Constitution and it’s very scary. November 2008 cannot come fast enough!
Yes, but what mischief can he get up to before that date. For some reason I can’t see this man going quietly into the night!
no, i didn’t hot have a tripod.
I want to find out how much those tickets in LA cost first….if it’s $300, i definitely dont go!!! ^^ Are you going???
