Brazilians Need Space
Luis was in town for business yesterday, and since he needed “space and double glazing“, he naturally he chose to stay at the premier destination for Hollywood movers and shakers, the Hotel Careyfornia. After a casual dinner at the churrascaria, I introduced him to Crackberry (which is now open at The Grove) and we then did a quick Hollywood tour, before retiring home to look at pictures of his beautiful children (and wife…hi Jennifer!), and Skype with Marcelo and Emily until the wee hours.
Welcome to the Hotel Careyfornia…such a lovely place…Luis explaining (in Portuguese) to his family in Brazil, about where we went for dinner.
In Brazil, “we eat-a meat”
The newest Pinkberry convert. Watch for an Austin opening!
A cold night in LA!
The Grauman’s Chinese Theater premier of Cloverfield
The decapitated Statue of Liberty a la Cloverfield
We took these for Luis’ daughter
We made it to Rodeo Drive, but alas, everything was closed
Skyping with Marcelo & EmilyI’m also reposting these great photos of his son surfing in Brazil last year. He’s really growing up! This is a picture I took at Lake Michigan
in Chicago on Labor Day weekend 2001, the Saturday before
9/11:It’s always been one of my favorite pictures. He’s
such a doll. It’s amazing how much they grow up in 6 years
though. Last summer the family went to Ubatuba Brazil (where
you might remember our gang spent New Year’s a couple of years ago),
and this is what that cute “little” boy looks like now.By the way here’s Dad on a “business” trip
last week. Sorry ladies (and gentlemen), he
married! Thanks Luis. Abracos!

RYC, While I certainly don’t believe a week’s worth of random data is going to refute years of scientific research, I’m also not prepared to run amok screaming that the sky is falling either. As I pointed out, I do believe that overall, it is warmer today than 50 years ago when I was that young surfer’s age. But let’s face facts, global warming is less a function of greenhouse gases and the alphabet soup of chemical compounds dispersed into the environment than it is the sheer number of people on this planet – roughly 2.5 billion in 1950 compared to 6.5 billion today. each of those 4 billion extra people generate heat just trying to stay alive. Yes, technology needs to be used to help keep our environment healthy, but the true root cause isn’t the SUV, industry, or the local power plant that provides each of us with the style of life we enjoy, but the 6.5 billion people that yearn for the same comforts that you and i take for granted. Global warming is going to continue so long as our population continues to grow – the silver bullets that the green folk like to claim will fix the problem are nothing but the pulp of fictional books designed to make them rich. without a cohesive global program to address the needs of ALL people EQUALLY, then we do nothing more than pay lip service to an issue that is already beyond simple control by trying to simplify the problem with 5 second sound bites. there, how’s that for a rant? more peace, Al
it’s my own joke, based on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schrödinger’s_cat and http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/science/6dff/
instead of a cat-killing device, we hook up the geyser counter so as to turn on a cube solver. schrodinger’s cube.
