No jury duty this week! I called every day, and each day I was told I didn’t have to report. Now I can’t be summoned for at least a year (I think). I honestly wouldn’t mind serving, but I’m really swamped at work through February. Guess I won’t have to be wearing these now:

Thanks to Jess for sending this video from Australia in response to the whole Fred Phelps, God Hates Fags nonsense. This guy actually went to one of the anti-gay rallies and hit on Fred Phelps son. It’s great.
Not sure if this video is too little too late, but go Gore! He certainly has come into his own the past 8 years. Too bad he couldn’t have gotten his act together sooner.Speaking of Al Gore, did you hear they discovered the true cause of global warming??

You know, I’m surprised that this question hasn’t been asked of the presidential candidates. If you believe abortion should be illegal, then what should be the punishment for women who have illegal abortions?
1. If it’s illegal, then by definition you are breaking the law and committing a crime. In society, it’s not a crime if there’s no punishment. Otherwise, why make it a crime?
2. If abortion is “taking the life of another person,” then do you treat it as a murder? What degree? An abortion is planned and premeditated, which makes it a first degree murder. Death penalty for women who have abortions?
3. If that’s extreme, then are we talking about jail sentence? How long of a jail sentence? A fine would be silly. Then, it would simply be a tax on abortions.
So yes, what is the punishment for abortions if they are illegal? Just because something is illegal, it doesn’t mean it goes away. People always violate laws, and society has to deal with it.I’ll be gone for the next couple of days. Have a nice weekend everyone. Blogger out!

loved the aussie vid – isn’t it sad how much hate we have in this world – those folks are about one step away from strapping a bomb on just like the Al Qida gang – birds of a feather! I’d love to be a mouse in the corner when any of those folks stands in judgment. And yeah, it’s good to here Gore say something inteligent for a change and if gay marriage were the only topic of interest in my life, he’d have my vote, but alas there’s more to consider this election than just our rights – let’s see who the parties finally offer us when November comes around – i dearly hope it will be someone i can be proud to say i voted for when 2012 rolls around. have a great weekend. peace, Al
I love that video from Australia. I thought their beloved God hate cursing, words like fags, dykes are too swearing, right? I think the best way to deal with those people is be ignoring them, it’s their business to wasting time on the piontless things.

awesome no jury duty. usually when i get the notice if i can i try to reschedule it during some sort of holiday week. that way i know at least half the week forsure i wont be called in HAHA last time i did it on Independence week. ^_^ i find funny is, when my friend went to his interviewing thing, they called him a communist. he wasn’t even trying to not get picked either LOL

I also got a break this week with it being MLK Day on Monday. It’s funny that you’ve been summoned to jury duty before and you’re only 21. I’m 42, and this was the first time I’ve ever been summoned. Of course, when I was homeless, they couldn’t find me

I went and saw the last taping of the show in Sydney last year, it was fantastic. There are pics a few pages back on my xanga. I’ve also got tickets for the live show they’re doing this year (I know someone who knows someone).

The aussie video was awesome, I mean the aussies were great but the right wing religious freaks make me want to vomit, really upsetting. And still hard to believe that this type of stuff is happening. All the hate that is out there is depressing. These hate speaches and crimes are still taking place. You know, it wasnt that long ago that we lost Matthew Shepard (1998). Not long at all. And God love Al Gore. Ahhh, the popular vote just wasnt enough.

Abortion is such a touchy issue. All very good questions you pose. Abortion, I think, should be legal, but the states need to have some say in determining when the cutoff time is. Currently, with Roe v. Wade on the books, an abortion can be performed up until the time of birth.
I have a sister who is a nun. She’s not only a nun, but her order is very Pro-life (they’re called the Sisters of Life). It’s always fun having her around and discussing issues because she’s so open-minded. Note the subtle use of sarcasm that is hardly conveyed in that last sentence.
@verticalvoid - I personally don’t like the phrase pro-life. I mean, I think even people who support a woman’s right to choose, would prefer to choose life, and are therefore “pro” life. It’s not something I even feel even remotely qualified to espouse an opinion on however, as it’s a subject so far removed from my own life, it will never be relevant.
