  • Roscoe at Night & Wireless Lattes

I took Roscoe for a long walk tonight, and wanted to experiment with the night settings on my camera.  I really like the way these photos came out.

Roscoe’s fidgetiness created this ghostlike effect

    I love his luminescent eyebrows

If he wasn’t tied up, he would flatten that basketball in a heartbeat!

    Arielle watching The Wiggles

Look at how Roscoe has grown up in the past 6 months.  He’s gone from a clumsy puppy to a regal, well, puppy still!

Congratulations to Ann (Roscoe & Arielle’s mom) for surviving the Yahoo layoffs.  She’s only been there four months, which speaks well to her performance.  I was talking with Jorge tonight though, and it doesn’t look like Microsoft is going to back down any time soon.  It will be interesting to see what happens.  In the meantime, kudos to Starbucks for finally doing the right thing and making their wi-fi free!  Now maybe I can use this on my iTouch to order hot chocolate without having to wait in a long line of 150 buff gay guys (actors, learning lines and waiting to go on auditions before they have to go to their jobs waiting tables at night) at the West Hollywood Starbucks.  LOL

Get your coffee fix, fast!” iPhone/iPod Touch
application that allows users to purchase their favorite Starbucks
drink without waiting in line. This application also includes QuickPay,
a swipe transaction system using semacode technology (waving your iTouch or iPhone in front of a scanner to pay).

  • Chase & Taylor in Love?

The celebrity studded Grammy weekend started with breakfast at Hugo’s where we dined next to Talyor Kitsch, the former Abercrombie model who now stars on Friday Night Lights, and Chase Crawford who’s dating Carrie Underwood and stars on Gossip Girl.  (They both starred in “The Covenent” together).  As Christine and I cooed like school girls, Drew began to realize it was going to be a long weekend.

Taylor on the left & Chase on the right

That afternoon, a friend of mine got us reservations at the famous
Chateau Marmont for lunch.  It was ridiculously overpriced and the food was not that good.  THIS was my $20 Caeser Salad, LOL.  I kid you not:

After that we headed to Disneyland where
Darlene got us into both parks for free (with a FastPass!  Thanks
Dar!). It was a perfect day for Disneyland, great weather, and not too
    crowded.

The next morning we had breakfast at Grub, which is the restaurant opened by Betty Fraser from Top Chef.  She came to our table and fell in love with the dogs.  She was so nice, and her cinnamon vanilla French Toast is to die for!

Next up was Beverly Hills and Sprinkles for dessert and window shopping on Rodeo Drive so Drew could figure out what to get his wife for Valentine’s Day!

    I forgot my keys

After that we went to Hollywood & Highland and took a look at the preparations for the upcoming Oscars.  Christine took those pictures with her camera, and they should be on her blog shortly.  We decided to skip rooftop drinks at the downtown Standard, opting instead to pick up Claudio (so he could visit the Hotel Careyfornia) and meet the boys for a sunset hike up Runyon Canyon.

It’s amazing what 20 years can do!

    Garbo was exhausted!

Claudio & I under the flagship sign

On the way home Christine spotted Ian Ziering (from Beverly Hills 90210) driving his ’67 Corvette into Bristol Farms, so I pulled in and we took a picture of his car.  LOL

We ended the day with a spectacular dinner at Koi.  Expensive, but worth every bite.

This morning we headed to Santa Monica for dim sum and spent the rest of the day at the beach soaking up the 82 degree sunshine.  As I dropped Christine & Drew back at the Burbank Airport for the short trip to snowy Salt Lake City, we reflected on another too short but wonderful weekend at the Hotel Careyfornia.

    Happy New Year!

Tried to stop by the Grammy Awards at the Staples Center on the way home to get a few pics, but the traffic was terrible, so I snapped this shot of the Disney Concert Hall out of the car roof and headed back to West Hollywood.

Here are the best of the rest.  Have a nice week everyone!  –Carey

  • Livin’ it up at the Hotel Careyfornia

I worked down in Irvine today and met Dar at The Spectrum for dinner.  After that, I drove up to Burbank to meet Drew & Christine who flew in from Salt Lake City for a weekend of R&R at the Hotel Careyfornia.  When we got home we were met by Garbo & Ruby, who were dropped off earlier by their parents for a weekend at the Kennel Careyfornia!

Tomorrow, afternoon we’re heading down to Disneyland.  My cousin can get us into both parks for free because she works there, so that’s a nice treat.  Saturday, Claudio is coming from Washington DC and Mike is coming from San Diego.  We’ll do Hollywood and Weho and the rooftop bar at The Standard, and then we have dinner reservations at Koi.  Sunday will be dim sum (can anyone recommend and new, good places?) and the beach.  And of course we’ll hit all of the other hot spots in between.  Should be a busy but fun weekend!  It’s supposed to be in the mid to high 70′sHappy New Year!!

The dinky Burbank Airport has ridiculous amounts of security.  I got mouthy with these cops when they told be not to take pictures, and they almost arrested me.  Ugh.

    Christine + California = Craziness

Getting to know Garbo & Ruby

Poor Drew was so tired.  Since I never sleep, he’s in for a long weekend!

  • Making History (Herstory?)

I stayed up nearly all night, reading things online, taking “candidate matchmaker” quizzes, watching Hillary on David Letterman, and listening to Barack’s book on iTunes.  By the way, if you’re a US citizen and you’re not registered to vote, you’re an idiot.  If you are registered and didn’t vote today, don’t talk to me and don’t make excuses.  You’re LAME (or you’re a felon).

So after compiling all my pros and cons,

    No, not like this!

    here’s how it went down:

I had a new polling place this year…the garage of an apartment building the next block over.

It was like walking into the bowels of hell!

Seth & Hannah voted first, and she has her sticker to prove it.

It was actually quite crowded and I had to wait in line.

    Should I or shouldn’t I?

Is a vote for Hillary a vote for Bill?

    This year’s boring ballot initiatives.

Before I left, I even exchanged phone numbers with a cute election worker.  LOL, you gotta love West Hollywood.  You can vote with celebrities and make a date at the same time!

Do you think Hannah knows that I just voted for a woman??

Jessica, Hannah and I.  Girl power.  LOL

    HILLARY’S
    FIRST NIGHT AS PRESIDENT
     Hillary
    Clinton
     Was sworn in today as
    President
She has disposed of Bill and is spending
    her
first night alone in the White
    House.
She has waited several years for
    this.
     FIRST
    NIGHT
     Suddenly!
     The ghost of George
    Washington appears to her,
     and Hillary says,
    “How
can I best serve my country?”
Washington says, “Never tell a lie.”
     ”Ouch!”
Says Hillary, “I don’t know about that.”
     SECOND
    NIGHT
The next night, the ghost of Thomas Jefferson
    appears…
Hillary says, “How can I best serve my
    country?”
    Jefferson
    says,
     ”Listen to the people.”
     ”Ohhh! I
really don’t want to do that.”
    THIRD NIGHT
     On the third
night, the ghost of Abe Lincoln appears…
     Hillary says,
“How can I best serve my
    country?”
     Lincoln says,
     ”Go to the
    theater.”

So yes, in the end, I ended up voting for Hillary.  I do think Barack Obama will be president some day, I just think he needs a little more time in the Senate.  Barack in 2016!!  Now it’s on to the summer conventions and the election.  In other breaking news, you HAVE to watch this.  Screw the elections. Screw Natalee Holloway.  This is IMPORTANT NEWS!!

  • Barack vs. Hillary – Clearing The Fog

OK, not the best analogy, but I really wanted to post the picture (thanks Mayank).  LOL.  I’m still trying to figure out what to do tomorrow morning.  I honestly may not decide until I’m in the voting booth.  From what I’ve read, tomorrow will not decide the nominee, so once they pick running mates, it will be up to the delegates to decide.  That’s what we’re determining tomorrow.  Decisions decisions.  A week ago I was solidly for Edwards.  After he dropped out, I was leaning towards Hillary.  Now I’m not so sure.  Oh well, back to my political research!

I still don’t know.  I just feel like the rest of them are so
compromised by corporate interests that I have a hard time getting
behind any one of them.  Between Barack and HIllary I choose Hillary.
Between the rest of them I like Mike Gravel and John Edwards.  I’m
going to think and read about it over the next day.
    How about you?

I’m in EXACTLY the same situation.
I’ve got a lot of thinking and research to do tonight.

J and my dad both think Clinton is
just posturing in the center to get into office, which I can totally
understand. The problem is not so much her as it is the system that
puts her in office.  Once she’s in, just like every other politician,
she’ll have to answer to the people that essentially bought the office
for her.  Even though I probably support Gravel’s platform more and
Edwards’ stance on the war (although a far cry from Kucinich), I may
get behind Clinton because of the monumental tearing down of the gender
barrier issue, which is way overdue in this country.  Besides, she
really is brilliant, there’s no doubt about that, and I’m tired of
having a dummy at the helm.  I’m just a little hesitant because of some
of her hawkish leanings.  I can’t recall exactly what, but she’s said
things about Iran that are so US-centric it’s just hard to swallow
having someone like that in office instead of my ideal candidate.  She
is part of the same system that is in the midst of pulling off a highly
illegal amoral unethical power/money/oil grab around the planet, and
destroying millions of peoples lives in the process.  It’s sickening
but I refuse to be one of those people who doesn’t vote as some sort of
protest, because they could give a crap about you if you do that.  I’d
rather do a write-in vote for Kucinich than nothing at all.

I agree with all of that, but I don’t necessarily think
Hillary’s election would be that monumental for the gender issue (she’s
got bigger balls than most men!).  I think Obama’s election would me
more monumental in terms of the race barrier.  That said, if I do vote
for Hillary, it would really be a vote to get Bill back in the White
House.   Barack’s inexperience scares me.  It’s really a tough call.
What to do?  What to do??

Barack Obama would also be a monumental change, but I agree that his
inexperience is not a good thing, and until recently he was so
non-specific that I just don’t think that he really has an opinion
other than “I want change and I want to be in office.”  Well, me too,
but I should not be president! ;)

  • From 16 to 80 – These are the Moments…

Today we celebrated 2 milestones.  My uncle’s 80th birthday and my cousin’s 16th birthday!  Both pretty important numbers as birthdays are concerned.  I gave my uncle a card that was for a 40th birthday, but I wrote “times two (x 2)” in front of the 40.  My rationale was that I hope I look half as good as my uncle when I’m 80!

It’s amazing how fast the kids are growing.  Look at Kyle, Cody, Kevin, Kenny and Emily in these photos starting just 5 years ago when I first moved to LA:

Meanwhile, I’m just getting greyer and fatter.  LOL.  Here are a few more pics from the party.  Have a good week everyone!

  • Kaizuka, Taka, Poke and Run & Pokemon

Tyson used to blog about this sushi chef named Taka who owned a wonderful, cheap little sushi hole in the wall in Santa Monica.  We went there the day before Christmas Eve last month after seeing Juno.  Sadly, Taka couldn’t afford to keep his restaurant open and it shut down shortly after Christmas.  Taka had a very loyal clientèle though, and it didn’t take him long to find work, this time as the head sushi chef at Kaizuka, in Culver City.  We went there last night and it was wonderful.  As soon as we walked in Tyson knew all of the people at the sushi bar, as they were all of Taka’s customers from his old place.  As the evening progressed, more friendly faces showed up and the people were constantly buying sake and beers for Taka and his young apprentice.  What a convivial atmosphere!  The sushi was to die for (I even accidentally ordered the yellowtail twice.  The first time, Taka’s apprentice made the roll and it was great.  The second time, Taka made it and it was amazing.)  I highly recommend the Hiko roll (albacore and crispy onion) and the spicy tuna on crispy rice.  I ate so much, but I’m fat and happy!

    Tyson, Taka & me

Afterwards I came home and ended up playing (wasting time) on Facebook for like 3 hours.  I must admit I’m addicted to that silly Friends For Sale application.  I’m still relatively cheap and poor, but I’m coming for you Jad!!  I also updated my profile pics and added some videos and montages.  Why would anyone ever pay a lot of money for something like match.com when Facebook can do all of that?  Speaking of that…I found a great group to join.  This pretty much sums it up, LOL:

He pokes her, she pokes him, they poke each other back and forth. (Or he pokes him, he pokes him back)
Cut the shit already, I want it, you want it, we’re not fooling anyone…

Enough with the poking! Let’s just have sex.

Seriously. People don’t understand why “poking” exists on facebook. It’s pretty clear that it’s facebook’s classy way of flirting, none of this “I was just thinking about you” bullshit. You want to have sex, so you poked me. End of story.
Be realistic, how often are you poked by a member of the same sex (or opposite sex if you’re gay)?

    –THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF POKING–

    I) Never poke someone you dont know and haven’t spoken to, simply because you find them attractive. Stop being obvious and gross/stalker-y.

II) Don’t poke anyone you don’t want to have sex with. You’d just be an asshole giving them the wrong message. If you “just want to say hello”, then IM them or comment on their profile etc, and actually say hello.

III) Don’t return any pokes to the person who poked you if you dont find them attractive. You’ll just be leading them on. It’s not cool to break unnecessary hearts.

IV) Straight men don’t poke other men. It is never appropriate. End of story. Gay men however, can and do poke straight men all the time…and love it.

    V) DONT OVER-POKE! If you’re poking more out of routine than to display real affections, you’re poking too much. Limiting the frequency with which you poke helps retain the value of a single poke.

VI) If your poking is becoming too frequent, you need to have sex already. Once you’ve been poking back and forth for a few days, it becomes time to take the poking from the internet to the bedroom…or shower, kitchen, main lounge, attic, museum, airplane, fast-food restaurant bathroom, Chuck-E-Cheese’s ball-pit, etc.

VII) Be careful when you decide to hide your pokes. Hiding a poke is the same thing as a rejection, and you don’t want to send the wrong message to someone you might be interested in. If you are attracted to a person but don’t want to be bothered with constantly poking back and forth, just leave the poke up there, it doesn’t bite.

VIII) Poke wars are retarded (see #6). The process of poking isn’t fun. You’re just clicking a friggin’ button. The sex that comes afterwards is the fun part. Two people competing over who “gets poked last” or who “pokes the other the most” or whatever is the most ridiculous concept I’ve ever heard. It’s like two people sitting across from each other saying “I want to have sex” back and forth but with neither of them actually doing anything. They poked you, you poked them. Now stop the poking, and go have sex.

IX) If you like being an elusive, hard-to-get poke, don’t give it up too soon! Sometimes, witholding that poke for a few days can intensify the relationship. Or, if you like subtly letting others know you’re angry, take a long time to return their pokes, or hide their pokes altogether. Internet poking is as mental, as real poking is physical.

    X) The last, but certainly not the least important Commandment: PRACTICING SAFER POKING.
It was already stated in the First Commandment that it’s wrong to poke those you dont know that you only have physical attractions for, however, creeps are out there, and it happens nonetheless. DON’T POKE PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW. You never know who that mysterious person poking you is. You never know who they’ve poked, or even if they were safe pokers themselves. Unsafe poking can lead to stalker-esque relationships, both in and out of Facebook. And you never know who might give you a virus (be it spyware or herpes). Neither of us want that. Two ways to poke safer are: to completely abstain from poking (this is the only 100% safe, religiously appropriate way), and to only poke people you know. Also, putting up sexy, cute, or marginally attractive profile pictures that non-friends can see might lead to unwanted poking. Be wary…and slutty/hoish at your own risk. I recommend neutral profile pictures of puppies, flowers, or famous athletes. Doing anything else might attract attention and end disastrously!

If you were: a victim of a poke-and-run, poked anyone without protection, a forced-poke victim, or gave accidental drunken pokes to that “less-than-par” sorority girl, please contact your local teen crisis hotline, police station, health center, school counselor, or any trustworthy adult.

    –Get the word out!–
Invite your friends, but in particular, invite the people that you’re always poking, so that they can FINALLY get the real message you were trying to convey.

My best friend Dan’s six year old daughter Sophie got on the phone with me today, and this was our conversation.

  • President Carey Anthony??

I had to be in Orange County today, so I had dinner at Pei Wei in Lake Forest tonight with my cousins Lisa & Dar.

When I drove back to Hollywood, I decided to stop by the Kodak Theater (home of the Oscars) where tonight’s Democratic Debate was held.  I thought I might catch Barack having a milkshake at Johnny Rocket’s or Hillary shopping for lingerie at Victoria’s Secret, LOL.  I was also hoping to run into Anderson Cooper before he hit the gay bars in West Hollywood but he was probably tied up.

The streets were still blocked when I parked, and Jimmy Kimmel was celebrating his 5 year anniversary show across the street from the Kodak.  The network crews were readying themselves for the 11:00 news broadcasts and I took a few photos:

When no one was looking I went around the police tape and waited by a locked service entrance until a CNN worker came out.  I stuck my foot in the door and slipped in quietly (no Secret Service in sight).

These are the same stairs Angelina and Brad will be climbing in a a few weeks

I went into the theater and took a few photos, and asked one of the guys who was disassembling the stage to take my picture in the candidate’s chairs.  He gladly obliged.

The stagehand took a picture of me in 2 chairs, but the the one in Hillary’s chair didn’t come out.  Is this a sign I should vote for Obama on Tuesday??

The Kodak Theater gave us a Kodak moment — a post debate embrace that included beaming smiles — that transcended the two hours of talking that preceded it. This was the first time the two leading candidates were alone on the stage, and the first time that you could see the two of them running together. The most engaging part of the debate had to be the extended, sometimes contentious, exchange over Iraq. It was the most effective sequence for Obama, and the most important for the country – bringing Iraq off the backburner, placing it front and center, and highlighting the significant differences not only between Obama and Clinton but also between the Democrats and the Republicans.  Read more…
