Pasta, Pizookies & Debunking Third World Myths
We took the kids to B.J.’s last night, and let’s just say I shouldn’t eat for a week! Vivek keeps commenting about the amount of food we get served here in restaurants, and of course he’s right, it’s ridiculous. (Though he did finish his Pinkberry much faster than I did tonight!) That said, I’ve really enjoyed the cultural nuances that inevitably come up when such vastly different worlds meet and cohabitate. It’s a wonderful exchange of ideas. And as Hans Rosling so adeptly points out in this lecture from a couple of years ago, the world is getting smaller and the playing field more level. If you’ve got a spare 20 minutes, this is worth watching. Have a good weekend!

hey there, andy is cute, the scampi and pazookie looks good.
those ideas are interesting. i never saw the world put into graphics like that before.
BJ’s only redeeming quality as an eatery establishment is their dessert… which isnt even that great. can anyone spell “overrated” ?
Oh look at all those happy smiles! I always love outings with a great company and a lot of good food!
Ah, those blink as the camera click moments….
@razzlebash - Thanks. Yep, that guy gives a great presentation and knows how to use statistics!
I always have a good time with my little cousins! :)
@owbert - Yeah, I guess you’re right, but you could say that about most chains. I read recently that it’s one of the fastest growing franchises in the US now. Prepare for the Applebee’s factor.
@free2chuze - Thanks
Interesting video!
You must be their favorite uncle
@vsan79 - You would think so, right!? Sadly, this video suggests otherwise! LOL

@Dezinerdreams - You didn’t even comment on the song!?
@CareyGLY - Oh!! I didn’t notice at all! Yesterday, I had noticed that you tagged the blog under Boney M and Rivers of Babylon, but I didn’t see anything in the post and was wondering about the tags! I then thought that you were planning to write something about it and then maybe forgot! lol
hey carey! i’ve moved out of california and am now in vancouver to get my student visa. i haven’t had internet for a while, which is why my xanga has been dead.
i saw arthur benjamin in a colloquim at mathcamp 06! that time, it wasn’t anything formal like that video, but he did most of the same type of calculations. he called it the result of a misspent childhood! the day of the week trick isn’t as hard, though doing it at his speed does take a lot of practice. John Conway, who comes to mathcamp every year, invented the Doomsday algorithm for finding out the day of the week of any date. 1824/06/06 is especially an easy one. =)

one of the relay questions that week was to use three people, no paper, and square a three-digit number. pretty fun.
anyway, talk to you later.
@e2718281828 - Enjoy Vancouver Macky. It’s an amazing city. Do you go from there directly to Princeton? Hopefully I’ll make it out to Jersey one of these days, Or at least if I’m in NYC you’ll have to visit. It’s only 50 miles! Good luck.
@e2718281828 - By the way, if you didn’t watch the above video, I think you’ll find it fascinating!
