Texting Greatness & Meryl, Eat Your Heart Out!
Tonight we ordered pizza and hunkered down for the Closing Ceremony in Beijing, just as we did 17 nights ago for the Opening Ceremony. When American gold medal decathlete (and by tradition world’s greatest athlete), Bryan Clay, won the other night, I sent him a message on Facebook, as I’m one of his “friends”. Imagine my surprise at this text I received tonight from Bryan. Ain’t technology wonderful? For him to take the time to send this message shows he’s a real class act. He sent this as he was preparing to leave Beijing and return to his quiet life here in Los Angeles. I have a feeling his life won’t be quite so quiet anymore.We went to Claudio & Ryan’s for dinner last night and then went to see a charming little movie called Bottle Shock, which was based on the true story of how California beat the French in a blind wine tasting contest in 1976. Claudio sneaked wine into the movie, and about halfway through, I smelled it and thought the movie was in Smell-O-Vision.
With the famous Claudio sneer and without!I had Vivek take these pictures out the window on the way up to Oxnard. It was a pretty sunset, but as we got further north it got quite cloudy and cool. On the way home at 1 AM we went through fog as thick as pea soup.On our way there we made an embarrassing video “rocking out” to Abba and Mamma Mia. Suffice it to say, the Oscar or Grammy people won’t be calling. LOL

I love that you have “sneaked” linked to the dictionary so that it will settle any grammatical disputes it may cause.
@wherethefishlives - And I love the fact that you noticed!!
Hmm… what happen to the video? It seemed to have snuck out of your blog. (hee hee)
@ElusiveWords - Really? Try now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLHN9e3F0X4
HAHAHAHA… I think ABBA makes you drive faster! And keep your eyes on the road – hee hee…
don’t sing when you drive!
OMG! The video is so embarrassing! I look so retarded!
And the way you linked sneak is hilarious! Its new for me- I have never heard anybody use Snuck before.
@ElusiveWords - I already drive fast enough. I shouldn’t listed to Abba then.
@ayu_motosan -
@Dezinerdreams - YOU look retarded???? LOL, I’m the one who’s making a fool of myself!
@Dezinerdreams - BTW, did you see the Protected Post??
hahah!! cell phones are banned while driving.. but isnt it true that singing IS also veryyyy distracting! right? huney huney?
aww you look so happy in the video singing while driving ;P
@aliceandrandy - You’re too polite. If by happy, you mean goofy…I agree
yeah, that was cool that he responded to you – but pizza – you guys? – musta had some weird toppings on it then! – lol. great vid! peace, Al
I just love your video! It seems like you had quite a day!
you and your friends always have the gayest ‘ole time.
Good for Bryan for getting back to all of his supports!
@Paul - Yes Paul, I’m sure my singing distracted the other drivers more

@pukemeister - You don’t think we have normal pizza in California?
@gasdoc73 - Thanks! It was fun.
@MaximMan - LOL, what are you implying exactly??
@CareyGLY - Just saying that the Dell guy and I, would probably have a great time with ya’ll!
haha
@MaximMan - You tease!
But you’re right….you have no idea how much fun! LOL
be careful, you might cause a car accident. LOL
(I’m kidding, you look cute)
Nice that Bryan took the time to text you back. I notice that in addition to being one of the world’s best athletes, he also identifies as both conservative politically and Christian. Wide range of people you keep as friends. Very good!
@christao408 - Yep, he’s a devout Christian and went to a strict Christian college (Azusa Pacific). He credits Christianity with saving him from a life of drugs and bad behavior. I have not yet asked him however, if he would die for his faith? I’ll have to find out one of these days!
ooh, you have facebook.
@ABSOLUTmichael - Yep, and since I’ll be 43 next week, I may be the oldest man ON Facebook!
wow. that’s totally cool that he took the time to reply to you.
nice to know that even after having the nation’s/world’s eyes on him, he (and a few other Olympic athletes) can be humble and still be down to earth.
I heard Clay’s interview on NPR today. Seemed like a nice enough bloke.
@Jx2_66 - Yep, he seems very humble. Unlike Michael Phelps: http://www.todaysbigthing.com/2008/08/26 LOL, j/k
. But wait…you’re single now. LOL
@infinitysurfer - I heard that too James. I like him even more now. Too bad all the good ones are taken
BTW, you’re behind again, I just posted a new entry as you left this comment! xo
good photos, pizza good times and lovely sunset.
your video was fun, having a good time on the road. light hearted journey.
@razzlebash - Awww. thanks! Yep, I always try to keep it light hearted and fun :)
