  • Money Money Money – “Don’t Insult Me!”

Darlene was nice enough to let us into Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure for free this past weekend, and Vivek was like a kid in a candy store.  We had a great day, and I took some nice photos.  On the way there though, my car started making a strange clicking noise.  The next day when we drove to Santa Barbara, it got worse.  My friends thought it was the bushings, so today I took it back to Honda of Hollywood today.  Sure enough, it’s the bushings.  They need me to bring it back in on Friday morning, and they don’t know how long it will take to fix.  Hopefully it won’t be another five months!  Oh, and they have to go back and fight with the stupid insurance company that should have totaled the car in the first place!

Speaking of the accident, I had this delicious exchange with Safeco insurance recently.  They represent the girl who hit me, and they’re trying to settle with me, so I won’t sue their pants off, since my car was out of commission for five months!  It took me five minutes to write my response to her initial email, and a few minutes later, she upped her offer by $300.00.  Not bad, for five minutes work!  Everyone tells me I should get a lawyer and let them handle it.  What do you think?  I’ve never been in this situation before, and despite my dramatic emails, it really has been a huge nightmare!  She claims the offer is just for my injuries, but what about the rest?

    Carey,

I have reviewed the updated photo of your hand and would like to extend a settlement offer to you for your injury.

I would like to make an offer of $1,000 to settle your injury claim.

Please let me know if this offer is acceptable.

I have attached a release that will need to be signed by you and returned in order for payment to be issued.

    Have a nice day.

    “TWITCHELL, STEPHANIE L”

    5 months without a car.
    5 months of
more than 75 hours of telephone calls, emails, waiting on hold and
getting cut off by insurance companies, rental car agencies, and auto
    body shops!

5 months of countless miles of shuttling back and forth

5 months of interruptions to my job, where I earn my living and had to miss work to manage this

5 months of painful needles all over my body
5 months of headaches and uncertainty
5 months losing sleep from said problem.

    No, $1,000 is actually insulting.

Read the blogs.  It’s all there, as any court will agree.

5 months times $1000 would be far more appropriate.

    $5000
is a drop in the bucket for a major conglomerate like yours, whose
client, through their own admitted negligence, caused me pain and
suffering (not to mention a tremendous loss of productivity) for FIVE
    MONTHS.

And is that suffering over?  I FINALLY have my car back, but only
time will tell the rest.  Perhaps 10,000 would be more appropriate!

I await your response, and please don’t insult me again!

    Carey,

    I
am sorry that you are not happy with the offer that was made in the amount of
    $1,000.
Please be advised that this settlement is for your injury only and
is not linked to the damage of your vehicle or your time without the
    vehicle.
If you have evidence of your lost wages, please forward those to
    me for review.

Based on the fact that you received Acupuncture from a person that
we can not confirm is a licensed acupuncturist, there are no records of the
treatment, other than a photo of you with a needle in your leg, the treatment
was not done in a treatment facility and there are no bills.  I can not
evaluate the treatment as it was not acceptable treatment.  All treatment
must be deemed reasonable and necessary and have medical records and bills in
order for me to evaluate them properly.

    I
can offer you $1,300 to settle you injury claim.  Again please be advised
that this offer is based off of your injury only.

    Thank you

The funny part is, that these are the photos of my acupuncture that she’s referring too.  A friend of mine does it, and it really does help.  Ugh, I just want this to be over!

Maybe Colin should be my lawyer!  He seems to know a lot about money, money, money…and he sings much better than me!!  (I could watch this all day long!)

Anyway, here are a few of the Disneyland photos and a video:

    I let him win!

The girl in the ferris wheel with us was so scared!  It was kind of funny.

  • Oh, the drama!!! You want the money or tears?  :)

  • California adventuressss :) I love it there, I went this summer :D

  • HAHAHAAA That was so funny. She was like ” Right, since its in bold and there are fancy red letters in it, I’ll up it to $1300 :P “

Ahhhh but those are for your injuries only, shit you’re gonna be like well loaded with cash after this :P But yeah money can’t buy time unfortunately, but money can buy more rides on the ferris wheel with terrified people! :)

Reckon I’d beat Vivek and you at that buzz lightyear space ranger thing. :P

Oh and btw, I got the title of this blog!! Like immediately!!! Its from ABBA!!! Money money money ” Don’t insult me ” Lol. Bloody legend :P

  • @Claudio - Don’t cry for me, Brazil!
    @aliceandrandy - I love “Soaring Over California” http://weblog.xanga.com/CareyGLY/641775717/chase–taylor-in-love.html
@Loltothepower - OK Jin Lightyear!  Come to LA and put your money where your mouth is!  (I might just let you win too )  By the way, did you watch the video.  Isn’t he adorable??

  • haha your conversation is actually pretty funny. and it’s also funny thought you’re both making references to your blog. i hope you get what you deserve! $1000 is so little, and $1300 is not that much of a difference.

  • a free day at dizzy land – you have all the connections!  didn’t look to be very busy, but i guess school’s back in business so that’s gotta cut the crowds some.  looks to be a fun time none the less.  you’ll have to take him to Cedar Point next.  as for the car thing, don’t know what to tell ya on that one – insurance companies are pretty adept at keeping their costs low, they’re used to listening to claimants whine, and they keep a string of lawyers sitting around just waiting for you to show up with your’s.  in the end, you might end up with a little more satisfaction and perhaps some more money after you pay off your own shyster, but at a cost of more time and aggravation.  might be further ahead to wait for the proceeds from Colin’s first record contract!  enjoyed the pix as always.  peace, Al

  • Get a lawyer and determine what is a fair amount.  $1,300 is pittance… not even worth blogging about.

  • those dirty rotten scoundrels! i’m glad you gave them a piece of your mind. Go get em, Carey!

on another note, great Disney photos! haha

  • Life seems fun on your side,

  • Oh man, I want to go to Disneyland!

  • @pukemeister - Wow, thanks for the response.  Good advice!
@ElusiveWords - LOL, I love that word.  Pittance.  It’s perfect.
@MaximMan - Scoundrels indeed.  Wanna be my lawyer? :)
@ewisluke - The grass is always greener, Lewis.  Chin up, mate.
@jeffersonpart2 - I’m sure Disneyland wants you to come there too :)

  • the pics whick took from main street in disneyland, make me hv many good memory coz i had work there before…but in hk,hahahaaa

  • Get a lawyer and make them pay! They are just ridiculous!!

  • Insurance company’s job is to say NO.  But, $1300?  She is nuts!!  (I was thinking to suggest you to sue Stephani’s pants off, but decided against it, hehe, as I thought you might prefer those with a more muscular name, lol.mmm  ).  Decide how much you want, add $10,000 to take me out to dinner, and demand with a seven day deadline. Of cos, having a lawyer friend would be helpful if he can write a letter for you.   Email just does not cut it.  You are too nice!

  • @CareyGLY - i’ve been trying to tell the California Bar that I’d make an excellent lawyer! No reply yet. Until that time, consider me counsel in moral support!

  • You have needed a lawyer from the very beginning!  I think it is the only way to go with this situation.  They are going to just keep ripping you off if you don’t.  You should at least go consult a lawyer and see what they think.

Loved the video – he is adorable!

  • I wish Disneyland would limit the people it let in so we could ride more.

  • you LET me win???  The blogosphere will find the truth in my blog soon!     And you should have posted a photo of your “INJURY”!

  • Go BuzzLightyear!!!

  • the thing with your case (sorry that it just won’t stop) if you go to court, it’ll be dragged out even longer. it gets down to what you really want.
    fabulous photos.loved them.
collin is very cute and a good singer/entertainer.

  • That lengthy email exchange probably cost the insurance company $5,000 in administrative costs, not to mention the countless working Stephanie Twit spent stalking your blog.  At least you got into Disney for free.  That probably saved you close to $5,000, give or take a few Disney dollars.

  • oops…that’s “countless working HOURS…”  (I hate ESL’ing in a comment!)

  • @joe_astroboy - I definitely like the California Disneyland better than the HK one, but I’d rather live in HK :)
    @gasdoc73 - I’m not a litigious person, but I fear you’re right!
@stevew918 - If I get $10,000 I can take all of Xanga out to dinner.  LOL
    @MaximMan - I don’t think I could afford you anyway!
@bowzere - Thanks, I guess you’re right.  And yes, Colin is the light of my life!
@infinitysurfer - Come with me next time James…the FastPass is nice.
@Dezinerdreams - Do you know who you’re messing with little boy??
@curry69curry - To infitinty and beyond!
@razzlebash - If I go the lawyer route, I would hope that the outcome would be a reasonable settlement, without going to court.
    @jasonbasin - ROTFL @ Twit & Disneyland.  LOL

  • @CareyGLY - i would certainly hope so. decisions, decisions. and all about your car. thing is i’ve had close calls with my car. 2 x the person ahead of me got ran into and their car was really bent up. each time if they weren’t hit, it would have been me. that was too close for comfort. hopefully you won’t have to go thru this again.

  • dang….i missed the disney!!!

  • @lcfu - Sorry!  You weren’t here! :(
