“The task of our generation, whether we are religious people or secular people, is to build a global community where people of all persuasions can live together in peace and harmony.” The Golden Rule is fundamental to compassion. Visit http://charterforcompassion.com/ to learn how. I’m thinking of contributing the story of what “GLY” stands for. It’s a story I’ve never fully documented, but those who know me have heard it many times. Also, I participated in a video shoot yesterday for an exciting project that will foster peace on earth. That’s all I can say for now, but stay tuned for details in the next week or so.
A special thanks to Jech for reminding me of this classic West Wing clip that still gives me goose bumps when I watch it. President Bartlett, meet President Obama:

a superb post – the prayer of St. Francis for peace is one on my favorites whether sung or recited. i will have to check out the organization you’ve promoted here later – alas work calls – but that west wing clip is awesome – and is so true that people pick and choose from the bible to suit their own purposes – hell, i’ve even seen it used to prove that Christ was gay! keep up the good work and i’ll look forward to finding out about GLY. peace, Al
Amazing videos! You seem to be on a roll here. hehe.
~sigh
i just watched the west wing video clip. (i watched the other too) and it really drives home an understanding i reached Saturday night. i suppose my personal code would be labeled “liberal” by those that like to generalize. Saturday night i found myself a lone spec of sanity on a beach of pig-headed racist homophobes. lots of fun that. it was stressful and depressing knowing that no matter what i said they were hardwired to believe what they thought was truth and what i know is cold hearted and wrong.
anyhow, i left that night knowing that my only amunition in such battles are facts. you can’t discuss policy or right vs. wrong with these people. in the west wing clip above the use of biblical fact against another biblical quote is precisely how you have to respond. facts. i plan to gather them and shove em in my pocket for just such a repeat occasion. thanks for posting that clip.
i’d love to hear the story behind “GLY”
Those clips gave me goosebumps too!! You’ve got all the good ones, Carey!
I only watched the first video, as I’m running late, but it brought tears to my eyes. Simply a great reminder. I’m planning on embedding that video onto my Xanga as well because it’s so powerful. Absolutely amazing, thank you for posting it.
@pukemeister - I don’t think Jesus was gay. He couldn’t dance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB6vPwwBGGs
@Dezinerdreams - OK, I took back everything bad I said about you.
@curtainsopen - Thanks. I totally agree. (Though I wish he would have thrown a few New Testament nuggets to refute in there as well!)
@curry69curry - Thanks Gary. I try!!
@torontobabyblue - You’re very welcome! Thanks for spreading the word. Have a nice weekend.
