  • A Heartbreaking Dancing Queen & A Picnic at the Beach

I’m back in LA and preparing for the next round of guests at the Hotel CareyforniaClaudio and Ryan are coming Thursday to drop off Chazz before leaving for DC for a week.  David & Hyun Ju arrive next week, and after then next weekend I’m heading to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah with Christine & Drew and their new baby!  January is going to be a very busy month.

Here’s a video montage of the best of little Patrick over New Year’s.  It’s a great example of why middle aged, overweight white men shouldn’t dance, sing or even clap! Despite my abysmal lack of rhythm, Patrick enjoyed dancing to Elton John & Abba. He also played soccer in his oceanfront backyard and even went fishing in the house!

Saturday Steve brought Lucie, Jack & Roin over and we went to Rockaway Beach for a picnic.  Afterwards we went bowling and I actually won twice.  (That has never happened to me.  Roin, who’s 9 years old, kept saying that I hustled him!  LOL.  I honestly have no idea how I won, even against the adults!)  At any rate here are some photos from our outing.

Jack took this.  Not bad for an 11 year old!

Patrick loved bowling!  Jack also took this one of me.  He likes these angles I think.

  • Pole dancing to Elton John and ABBA?

If I live there, I’ll be sitting by the ocean all day.  I don’t think I could ever get tired of that view and the sound of the surf.

  • Awe, Patrick is so cute!
And who says you need to get drunk to have fun and do silly/crazy things? Sober people are funnier.
And seeing the beach makes me extremely jealous. It’s freezing here in Ontario, there’s tons of snow, and the closest thing to a beach is a lake… which is frozen.

  • Carey. actually you did pretty good at pole dancing, :).  You should do that again when we guests check into the hotel to welcome us, lol. SoCal beaches are definitely beautiful.  Last year winter, I hosted a business meeting. I brought them to Newport Beach, and several guys from England and Chicago decided to stay put on the pier and ignore my call for meeting inside, lol.

  • you’re going to sundance?   cool?  first time?  i went once like 5 years ago.

  • great post, great pix, great kids, lucky guy – but don’t give up your day job to pursue a dancing career!  peace, Al

  • Heyyyy that was fun! That pole dancing had me in stitches! I keep on seeing you dancing to Britney Spears’ “Gimme More”!
And oh yeah, those pics taken by Jake are great. Such clarity!

  • i LOVE the beach! went to one last december and i stayed there the whole day. the sun was cooperating so nobody got burned. by the way, is it that cold there that i see you guys wear sweaters?

and speaking of those lovely pics, i saw the latest from canon – the g10. do you know if it’s way better than the g9?

thanks, carey and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  • @ElusiveWords - Yeah, that view never gets old, you’re right.  No comment on the pole dancing!  LOL
@omgitsmackie - Well, it wasn’t super warm there, thought it got up in the 60′s a few days.  Not bad for winter!  Happy New Year.
@stevew918 - Actually, that’s Northern California.  San Francisco.  But it’s still beautiful!
@generasianx - Yep, it’s my first time.  We’re just doing it casually.  No tickets in advance or anything.  Any advice?
    @pukemeister - Don’t worry!  That won’t happen.  LOL
@Cultur3sh0x - LOL, more like Britney at the VMA’s LAST year!   But thanks!  Happy New Year.
@Renatojr3 - Thanks!  Happy New Year to you too.  Since we were in Northern California, it was colder.  During the day, when the sun was out, it was about 18° C.  It got cool when the sun went down though!  I haven’t looked at the G10 yet.  Here’s a side by side comparison though:  http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_g9%2Ccanon_g10&show=all

  • lucie and jack are cute.beach scenes so free and delightful.  nice of roin to save the world for us.
the bowling alley is always fun.

  • carey and a stripper pole @_o? LOL

  • @razzlebash - Thanks!  It’s the fist time I ever beat anyone bowling.  I was actually trying to lose to the kids, but I couldn’t even get a gutter ball (because of the bumpers!)
@Sc12EeN17aM3 - LOL, why does everyone keep saying it’s a stripper pole!?  It’s holding up the house! :–)))))

  • @CareyGLY - wow a double function. they should paint it gold and add bling to it LOL

  • @CareyGLY - so you won when you were trying to lose. if that don’t beat all.

  • @razzlebash - Yep, tell me about it.  The 9 year old was getting bummed that everyone was beating him (even the toddler, with Dad’s help), so I was really trying to lose.  Maybe that’s the secret to bowling!?

  • @CareyGLY - that’s my mom’s secret to any game. she doesn’t really want to play and she wins. they dragged her to a party and she won the door prize. you are on to her secret now.

  • You do have a shot at becoming a stripper dancer!   The kiddo is so cute! I also love the painting in the last shot.

  • @Dezinerdreams - Painting? What do you mean?  That pic was taken on the night setting and the air hockey table had a black light.

  • @CareyGLY -  There is a painting in the background at 3:36 – 3:43.

  • Nice pictures, I should start using different angles like Jack so its not so boring. Would love to visit Rockaway Beach =) Hope it isnt too cold for surfing  =P

  • Looks like you have started 09 with a bang. Enjoy your January month!

  • @Dezinerdreams - Oh! The last shot of the VIDEO.
@Ratinha - Yeah, you pretty much always have to wear a wetsuit surfing there.  It never gets that warm, unlike Southern California.
@ToTaLLy_PhAt - Thanks!! You too.  Happy New Year.
