The Dog Ate My Homework…
David & Hyun Ju arrived at the Hotel Careyfornia on Tuesday by way of Germany. Hyun Ju had actually flown from Korea to Germany and then they flew to Los Angeles together from Hamburg. When they arrived, they were hungry so we decided to walk down the street to the local sushi bar on the corner. I had taken Chazz to the dog park for about 2 hours to make sure he was tired and that he would just sleep while we were gone for an hour. Unfortunately though, before David & Hyun Ju arrived, I had picked up all of Chazz’s toys and put them in his little toy box. I don’t know if he just forgot where his toybox was, or if he was just pissed that two new people came to the house and I left with them…but this was the scene I returned to:
In one hour managed to eat 3 books, my new slippers, a pair of tennis shoes and he grabbed a can of air freshener from the bathroom. But here’s the unbelievable part. These are two of the books he grabbed from the bottom of the bookshelf:
I couldn’t make this up if I tried….I have two witnesses! He definitely knew he had done something wrong:
Guilty!Upon further examination, we couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw some of the pages that he had torn out:
He seemed to focus on the chapter on “Animal Feelings”
Talk about puppy dog eyes!
Admittedly I staged this photo, but he really tore out the page on Animal Aggression! So the dog has to be a genius right? I mean, how could I be mad at him?? Claudio and Ryan came back last night and took him back to Oxnard, and I already miss the little shit. Puppies are amazing for your social life. I’ve met more people in my neighborhood at the dog park in the past week, than I have the prior six years of living here! I dog sit all the time, for Garbo, Ruby, Buster, Roxy, Roscoe, etc…but there’s something about a puppy. And after what Chazz just did, he’s definitely all puppy!Last night we had dinner on Sunset and took Chazz with us. I guess he got what he wanted. He even got a trip to Pinkberry afterwards where I practiced keeping him off leash while we were inside. He did so well, though he did manage to slip into Pinkberry a few times!

Naughty Chazz! Yeah, I agree that he might be an intelligent dog.
PS: Did you give the Vienna Teng CD to David?
exactly why i don’t have a dog – i’m away from home too long each day and that’s what i’d be apt to come home to! oh well. peace, Al
hysterical!
@pukemeister - Al, it’s probably like the whole grandparent love thing. some people say they love being a grandparent more than a parent because they always know that the kids are going home after awhile.
what say you carey?
Omg that dog is so freaking adorable. Now I know what people mean when they refer to someone as having puppy dog eyes.
heheh. smart dog! i think this thing happens whenever a dog feels lonely and scared (or crazy).
oops, what a mess! He is so cute though!!
wow he done damaged. lol i remember dogs i seen doing that. but yeah thanks for the comment. the thing is as i have seen so far, many ppl are the same as they grow older. many will continue to lie and do wat they can for themselves. its hard to find real ppl with no hidden agenda
@Dezinerdreams - OMG, I totally forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me. I’ll give it to him when he wakes up. I’m off to Sundance tonight!
@pukemeister - Keyword is dog. Dogs don’t do that, only puppies!
@curtainsopen - I think you’re right. Even though I dogsit for friends all the time, it’s nice to be able to hop on a plane and take off for the weekend like I’m doing tonigh, and not have to worry about who’d going to take care of the dog. When I had Oreo it was different. He went all over the country with me!
@Rm2046 - LOL, that mini is perfect! Thanks so much. Have a great weekend.
@Renatojr3 - I think he was just pissed at us for leaving!
@stevew918 - Yeah, I know. It’s hard to be mad at him. But I hadn’t finished one of those books!!
@Lon3lyAzNLoV3r - Yeah, he’s a regular Marley & Me. Hang in there buddy!
@CareyGLY - trust me, dogs do it too – been there, done that!
@curtainsopen - there’s a lot to be said for that!
I think he got a bit jealous and wanted to make sure you were going to blog about him.
oh my puppy is a genius. thats kinda weird with the ones he chewed up.
funny he also grabbed air freshener. i guess your shoes were a little to “ripe” for him. LOL
Smart puppy but bad! I hope to one day own and puppy and share the experience of disbelieflol.
@ElusiveWords - Well he got his wish. Sneaky little guy!
Have a great weekend!
@Sc12EeN17aM3 - LOL, you’re right Jad. I never thought about that.
@arEms - I got my first puppy my junior year in college. That was 1985. I forgot how much work a puppy was!
OMG! Incredible.
Our nephew came to visit us from CA some years ago, and brought his dog here. He knew that he couldn’t bring the dog inside the house here, so he had him outside and at night he kept him in the garage. the dog ( Pit Bull) tore my storm door down and ripped the mesh out.
Your dog did a pretty good job with destroying those books.
But on the other hand, it seems like you had a lot of fun Carey =)
And the food looks delicious.
I can completely understand your situation, as my BOND is the same naughty yet innocent. I should test him with some books now, shall I start with PEANUTS? haha
Despite my criticism re: content (i.e., sunsets, kids, dogs and Palin), this dog entry is quite acceptable. It made me laugh … hard! Thanks, Abe. I needed it. God, they are so smart, like idiot savants. I periodically call Tasha “raindog”–usually when she’s pissed me off. Albeit, she has
never destroyed anything so deliberately or recklessly, let alone ruthlessly, even as a pup (she was so reserved it made me worry), as the scene and inventory you shared. But she has always been a very effective communicator, and she has always made even “gifted” children pale when it comes to being precocious. But my, oh, my what a statement little Chazz made! Can we say high maintenance? I have unresolved rage issues related to my parents, but I’ve never acted out to so blatantly (unless driving the Mazda RX7 you received on your 16th birthday drunk into a string of bulldozers counts…my bad). Chazz is PERFECT for Claudio. Perfect! Just what the doctor ordered. I look forward intensely to further tails (sic) of aggravation to come. But lest I sound like one of those parents whose snot-nosed brat can do no wrong, I will admit Tasha has a cat-like knack
for letting you know when she’s pissed off. The dog has NEVER had a
problem related to going to the bathroom in-house, unless she’s
extremely displeased or legitimately ill. To the former, she prefers to
crap (never pee) under my desk, where I’m certain to stick my foot in
it. And I did last night, in a large pile, after having gone to a wedding we were supposed to
usher but were not able to given work and personal circumstances (on
Friday night at 6?!?). But I stuck around too long after the ceremony,
got home and there was my present… It was so chunky and well-placed that you’d never know she’s on chemo. :) Anyway, this blog entry is a definite
keeper. And I LOVED the photos. xoM
2 hours at the doggie park whew. i hoped YOU liked it too.
and i believe you without the pictures about chazz’s choice of books to tear up. i had a cat who got into my closet and found some cat calendar pictures that i like and was saving. she shredded them up like she was jealous. she had to get into the bottom of a box to find them and shred them. i couldn’t believe it at the time. it’s like she knew what she was doing. hehe. so i truely believe your chazz choosing books about animal behavior. (and aggression LOL)
and loved the last photo with all the pretty colors. great background for you and your ‘child’.
@ZSA_MD - I guess everyone has a puppy experience like that. It’s hard to be mad at them though!!
@ALTRUISTICDREAMER - Yeah, I always have fun! Thanks
@coolblueszone - Gosh he’s cute!!
@mdrezz - Redeemed! GLY my dear. xo
@razzlebash - Thanks! That last photo is outside Pinkberry.
HA, things that ironic.
unbelievable. but yeah, who can be mad at him. just look at his eyes….. boy, he’s really have grown so much too. the older he gets, the more adorable he becomes.
@ewisluke - You’ll find out soon enough with your new puppy Lewis!
@rudyhou - Thanks Rudy. He’s a sweetheart!
that is hilarious! i had my dog actually eat things like that, but nobody that mattered in terms of letting me off believed it.
@Ella - I wouldn’t have believed my own if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes!
Oh my God! That’s why I want an old dog. =) So cute though!
@Olallie - Yeah, he’s cute, but he’s a puppy who does not like to be left alone. That’s not the only damage he’s caused:
