Happy New Year from Tibet! Today is the Earth-Ox New Year of the 17th Rabjung cycle in the Tibetan Royal Year 2136. We arrived here last week, and this is the first chance I’ve had to write. Internet access is spotty at best. Today we listened to the Dalai Lama give his annual New Year message where he announce that the normal festivities were to be put on hold. He’s calling instead for a commemoration of those killed in brutal crackdowns on demonstrators a year ago today. I haven’t been able to upload any pictures yet, but will soon. Love ya! –Jess
Speaking of Chinese New Year, I’m down here staying at my cousin Darlene’s all week. She had hip replacement surgery on Monday. Last night I had to babysit for Tommy & Andy while Lisa went to the hospital to visit Darlene. I was helping Tommy with his homework, and the following discussion ensued:

I’ve been working 12 hour days all week and it’s going to be like this for another week. I’m glad I got to see the kids a bit last night. We had a good time.

It feels like a year of transition. Next year is my year =0 so I feel like getting my ass in gear is gonna happen regardless. If you’ve ever read Paulo Coelho’s the alchemist, one of my favorite little quotes is “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Have an awesome 2009 my dear one and while you’re travelling do me a favor, try to write about the food you eat in detail. I freakin LOVE reading about food XD hahaha mmmm not-so-closet fatty righ here. Be safe on your journey *HUGS*
