Joelle and I went to see “Dancing with the Stars” tonight.  It’s a live show on the east coast, so they start at 5:00 here.  It’s performed just down the street from me at CBS Television City on Beverly & Fairfax in the same studio as American Idol and the Price is Right.  We ended up getting pretty good seats on the main dance floor.  We were in back, but we had our own little corner to ourselves, which allowed me to covertly take photos with the camera I was able to sneak in.  The security was tighter than Jimmy Kimmel, but not as tight as Idol.  To get my camera past the two security guards and the walk thru metal detector, I had to create a diversion.  I let Joelle go first and waited for them to take her Blackberry away.  While she was arguing with them, I discreetly stuck my camera in underneath my wallet in the basket and nudged it through while no one was looking.  I also got my iPod Touch through!    Afterwards Joelle said I should have gone into terrorism…thus the title.

Contrary to the picture above, Barack & Sarah weren’t dancing.  In fact, most of the “stars” were D-List bordering on F.  The girl from “The Bachelor”Denise RichardsSteve WozniakThe Playboy Bunny from “The Girls Next Door“?  Please!  I see bigger stars walking their dog in front of my house or at the KFC down the street!  At any rate, the show was entertaining.  I think the judges do a better job than the ones on Idol.  It doesn’t seem rigged…I guess there would be know reason to rig it, since all they win is an ugly disco ball trophy.  The photos I took aren’t great, as there was a lot of dry ice smoke in the air, and I was trying to be extremely discreet.  We even had a plan where to meet if I got kicked out (as I lost my cell phone yesterday).  Still the blur effect is kind of cool on some of them.  It’s a pretty studio.

Having sushi for lunch before being let in to the studio.  It was a gorgeous day in Hollywood.

Julianne Hough with her boyfriend, country star Chuck Wicks

Co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak.  Only worth 4 billion dollars!  Horrible dancer.

Mark Ballas and Olympian Shawn Johnson

    Lil’ Kim and Derek Hough

Singer, Jewel, who had to drop out of the competition due to injury.  Her husband is still dancing though.

Hastily take self portrait of Joelle and I…trying not to get caught!

    After the show…

The only picture I took with a flash and the girl who took it for us, covered the flash with her finger.  Ugh.

A quick video of Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke dancing while Joelle and I look on from the audience

Ryan Seacrest, eat your heart out!

One last Los Angeles sunset, before returning to Santiago, Chile then New Delhi for 3 years!

The picturesque fountain at The Grove

I swear, people don’t know how to take good pictures!

That’s us…The biggest stars in the place!

    Best of the rest…

  • Nice to see you taking part at the show! That was a pretty slick one by creating a ‘diversion’! Good job!

  • u were able to take a lot of pictures, esp shown in smugmug. wow.   u must be a smart “terrorist” that the security did not take your camera away in the theater.  What is your opinion about SmgMug, do you recommend for sharing pic with friends?

  • i’ll keep you in mind the next time i need to plant a bomb!  sounds like a fun time anyhow.  3 years in india?  what kinda work does jolle do?  peace, Al

  • Haha, awesome. Looks like you had fun!

  • She said it right! Haha.  Joelle is moving to Delhi for 3 years?  Let me know if she needs someone to help her set base in the city (which I doubt considering how well traveled she seems to be). I am curious as to what kind of work she does.

  • Very cool pictures!

  • You’re the sneaky one! You were lucky you weren’t caught with the camera! Yeah, reality tv show security and their rules about cameras/ camphones really sucks. Been there before as a contestant.

  • Woz is a horrible dancer, they must just keep him for a laugh.  Nice diversion!  I need to vaca in Hollywood sometime, there are so many shows I would love to see live!  Great pics, btw!

  • lol, I love the picture of the TV screen which you have conveniently labeled to point yourself out. Very smooth picture-sneaking skills. BTW, are LA sunsets always like that?? I want to run through that fountain!

  • You always see or do the coolest things!

  • @curry69curry - Thanks Gary.  It was a good show to see. Very entertaining.
@stevew918 - I joined Smugmug because I was mad at Flickr (http://careygly.xanga.com/673256483/captive-photos-spam-scams–buh-bye-georgie/) and think Google charges too much.  I still think Picasa’s interface is better.  I’m going to give it a year and see how I like it.
@pukemeister - She works for the State Department.
    @omgitsmackie - Always!
@Dezinerdreams - That’s a nice offer.  She just might take you up on it. All I can tell you is that she works for the U.S. government.  If I told you any more, I’d have to kill you.
@Levanna - Thank you and thanks for stopping by!
@free2chuze - Oooh, I forgot you were on a reality show over there.  You need to come to LA and let me be yoru paparazzi!
@bornajayhawk - That’s kind of what Carrie Ann said to him last night.  The novelty has definitely worn off!
@wherethefishlives - Yeah, most of our sunsets are pretty.  I think it’s because of all the smog.  LOL
@suez_site - And you baby is still the cutest!

  • kudos for sneaking the camera in!!

  • HAHA i love how u purposely caused a scene to hide your stuff. thats like something you see in movies. great pics from the show. my aunt and parents would be jealous hehe

  • @generasianx - See Tony, there are some advantages to having a small camera!
@Sc12EeN17aM3 - Thanks Jad.  When are we having an Idol night?

  • Great post! Sounds like you have a great life!!!

  • @watersedge62 - Thanks for stopping by!

  • @CareyGLY - It will be a pleasure…  she seems to be really interesting!  And about her work- I actually guessed as much. haha

  • veyr coollll!! :)

  • sometimes i wish i lived in la just so i can catch all these televised shows. everytime i go do it’s a weekend and nothing ever records on a weekend.

  • @JonasApproved - I’m kind of surprised you don’t live here.  You certainly spend enough time here…and you already work in the industry.

  • @CareyGLY - heh, i actually like the city of sf (or ny) better than la, though i wouldn’t mind moving to la if the right opportunity were to arise. i haven’t been down there since christmas. this is the longest i’ve been away. i’m trying to cut back and save money, but the i end up going to all these other trips. this isn’t working out as planned haha.

  • omgosh lucky you! we have dancing with the stars the new zealand version here. Its okay…nothing compared to the one there! Btw Joelle looks like ellen degeneres in those sunnies! :D

  • @Loltothepower - Thanks Jin.  I’m sure Joelle would be honored to know she looks like Ellen.  I never really thought about it, but you’re right.  Who’s on NZ’s DWTS?  Anyone I would know?
