  • Taco Tuesday, Photoshopping Drool & Returning to Sender

Buster (the one eyed horn dog) & Roxy

I’m house-sitting and dog-sitting for Buster & Roxy this week and next, down in Mission Viejo.  Tonight I met my cousins and friends for Taco Tuesday at Tortilla Flats.  It was a beautiful summer night on the lake.

After being impressed by Amos’ car and reading my post about The Golden Compass last year, Pang was nice enough to work some Photoshop magic (a skill I don’t have) on the picture of me sleeping through that boring movie!

It joins the pantheon of other great Photoshopping excursions with my big head, like my most recent and topical profile photo from Tony:

And the not so great ones that I did (without Photoshop), like this one for my Steroid/Rehab post:

Or this, pre-blogging classic, when the abominable Catwoman movie came out:

Sometimes, Photoshop isn’t even needed, like in this snapshot Rebecca took on our drive to Michigan last month,  Thank goodness the drool was covered.  And yes, I was cold.  LOL

Regular readers of this space know that I despise snail mail.  This year, I have decided to only open mail twice a year, in July and December.  Period!  (Christmas cards are a whole other conundrum:  http://weblog.xanga.com/CareyGLY/632811811/the-christmas-conundrum.html).  All of my monthly bills are on autopay, and anyone else who I might owe money better email me!  This is the stack of mail from the past six months that I didn’t even open.  I simply wrote “RETURN TO SENDER” and “REMOVE FROM MAILING LIST”, and stuffed it all in a mailbox on my street corner today.  On some of these envelopes I wrote my email address.  We’ll see how effective my new strategy is.  At least I’m making all these companies pay for postage twice.  If everyone did this, it might start making a difference!!  (Did you know there’s one number you can call to stop all pre-screened offers of credit and insurance?  Also, there’s a # to call to opt out of all of those coupons and circulars that come in the mail.  Simply check the fine print on each item and call the number listed for the publisher.)

  • haha, the golden compass photochop is pretty funny!

  • Tortilla Flats looks very nice, but it is so far behind the Orange Curtain!

You don’t like snail mail, huh?  I’m quite fond of it.  I actually still send snail mail birthday cards, get well cards, etc. to friends and family and exchange post cards to my former students.  “You’ve got mail” on AOL just isn’t as nice a sound as actually tearing open an envelope of a real piece of personal mail.

  • No one can decline a taco tuesday! I had no idea that I could opt out of those stupid coupons that they send to everyone. They’re a horrible waste of paper and go straight into the community recycle bin whenever mail is retrieved at the boxes.

  • @generasianx - Yep, he did a nice job.  Just like you! :)
@christao408 - LOL, the Orange Curtain.  That’s what my cousin’s call it too. Yeah, I really despise paper mail.  I mean, I get the whole letter thing, and I still do send Christmas cards (actually wrote a whole post about that conflict:  http://weblog.xanga.com/CareyGLY/632811811/the-christmas-conundrum.html ).  But 95% of what comes in my mailbox is completely unnecessary and useless. Its such a waste of time and money.  I admit, my thinking is a bit extreme, but I tend to take everything to extremes.
@ExodusFX - Yep, eliminating that crap was a major coup.  All of those things are sent out by companies who are required to identify themselves (in very fine print).  When you call them, they’re more than happy to remove you from the list.  Problem sovled!

  • 1. I LOVE YORKIES

    2. aww it looks like you guys were having hella fun :]

    3. haha the photoshopped pictures ARE THE BEST! :]

    4. you should make the song on autoplay :] i barely saw it

ryc: haha, you so funny :]

i would be curious as to who you would pick outta the 5 though

[i think that lil kid flipping the bird is one of the top choices ;] ]

  • photoshop FTW!

  • You don’t open your mail even if they are bills?  hahaha

  • that cat woman one is killing me…lol

  • too many bills to ignore for 6 months – though it would be nice to only have to pay one every six months – lol.  enjoy the dogs!  peace, Al

  • you really need help with photoshop! I will teach you if I come there!   or have people attempted to teach you and failed?

  • @Devilzgaysianboi - LOL!  1) Next time you’re in LA, I’ll introduce you to Roxy.  2) I always have fun!  3) Thanks!  Wish I could take the credit.  4) Sorry, I always put my songs at the end, and never put them on autoplay.  I don’t like to force people to hear the music.  I only want them to click if they want.  Too bad imeem doesn’t make it a bit more apparent.  I like your ipod, maybe I’ll try that.  5) LOL, YOU of course!!   After that though, it would be between #4 and #2.
@wutuwaitn4 - LOL does that mean F*** the what John??
@ElusiveWords - Nope, I don’t get bills in the mail.  That’s all electronic already.  Every once in a while a bill slips through, like the one from the guy who prepared my taxes this year.  Too bad, so sad, he had to wait.  I told him to email it to me, and he didn’t listen.  Not my problem.  (Besides, those types of people don’t report to credit bureaus.  I have stellar credit, and have never been late on a payment that matters!)
@ayu_motosan - You and me both Benson.    Meowwwwwwww!
@pukemeister - Yeah, I don’t ignore bills, they just don’t come in the mail.  Any bill that matters is already set up on autopay.  If they don’t offer auto pay, and it’s not free, they don’t get my business.  I haven’t written a check in 8 years and I’m not about to start!  My family knows not to send me party invitations and that kind of crap in the mail.  It’s just a waste of paper and money, and the Post Office doesn’t need more money for shitty stamps and psycho mailmen!
@Dezinerdreams - It’s not so much that I need help with Photoshop, it’s that I don’t even own it.  Actually, I don’t want to.  If I had Photoshop, I’d probably never leave the house.  You guys think I blog a lot now.  I’d be dangerous with Photoshop.  It would be far too time intensive.  Thanks for the offer though Vivek!  I do sometimes wish I had a free and easy “lasso” tool that I could use to extract a certain shape from a photo (i.e. my head on Catwoman).

  • What a great night it was – so happy to share it with you and your family, and our friends too!  Hope to see you there again soon….love the photos – thanks for sharing!
    Michele

  • some beautiful scenery and happy people tog.
then LOL you were a very brave sleeper in the golden compass. nerves of steel.
i saw get smart and the guy playing it sure did look familiar, i knew that i’d seen him before. duh it was you the whole time. i’m such a dork to not have recognized you in the theater. thanks for giving me a second chance to redeem myself. and thanks for not rubbing it in sparing me the humility of it all. you have been a very gracious actor, and i should like to be a part of your fan club. :D

  • @razzlebash - Humble is my middle name!    Thanks!

  • Golden Compass was atrocious. And I was forced to watch it too, so I was especially pissed.

  • @infinitysurfer - You should have taken a nap like me James!

  • You are funny with the pictures.

By the way, I hate junk mails with a passion.  My snail mail is 99% junk mail.  Wonder how many trees are cut down for this. To be honest, I do not have your guts not opening the mail.  What if I got a law suit? a call for jury duty?  a check promising me $1 milllion, lol.  You are brave!

Hey, I was at first puzzled by your comment “Happy Birthday Dave” under the picture you took with a lady.  I thought “she” was Dave, until I read the short-cut, lol.  Was that intentional? :)

  • Thanks.  Yep, Dave was my cousin’s husband.  He died last year.  It was his birthday the other night, so we toated him!

  • you know… you look like a guilty thug under that hood of yours ;P

  • @rudyhou - Yeah, that’s me….a thug.  LOL
