The Spruce Moose & Other Political Observations
Things I’ve surmised/learned/heard this week from Bill Maher, Rush Limbaugh, Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, ABC News, Fox News, CNN, Slate.com, Gawker, Daily KOS, The Huffington Post and my Republican friends:- McCain
has 9 homes (not 7) in 3 time zones and a private jet and he says that Obama, the
guy who was raised by a single mom on food stamps, is an elitist?? - The Sarah Palin interview with Charlie Gibson frightened me (and Michael Seitzman too!).
- Charlie Gibson has now interviewed and vetted Caribou Barbie more thoroughly that John McCain ever did.
- Why can’t Charlie Gibson be Vice President?
- At
least two politicians in the upper level of American government know
nothing about “The Bush Doctrine“. Sarah Palin and George W. Bush. - Sarah Palin thinks The Bush Doctrine has something to do with not letting her daughters shave “down there“.
- If
Sarah Palin was any more of a deer (moose?) in the headlights during
the Gibson interview, she would have shot herself (from a helicopter). - Sarah Palin (The Spruce Moose) is a Category 5 MORON. But maybe a
hockey mom with 5 kids doesn’t have time to read the newspapers. Can she put the “Ma” in Democracy??
- Upon
her triumphant homecoming to Wasilla, Alaska last week, Sarah’s
favorite sign held up in the audience was the one by her youngest
daughter that said, “I got my period“. - The “lipstick on a pig” metaphor is unfair, because pigs are smart. They don’t believe in Creationism.
- This
is Barack’s election to lose. He’s running against a “200 year old man
and a mountain mama who make Bush look like a professor”. - Sarah Palin’s like a bright shiny penny. Nice to look at, but not worth the metal it’s made of.
- Where’s
Hillary? She needs to be out there saying, “This woman is not anything
like me just because we both have tits“.
- The Peter Principle states that people rise to their level of incompetence. It should know be renamed “The Palin Principle”.
- As ridiculously unqualified as she is, she’s not running for
president, and if the media doesn’t start focusing on McCain soon,
there will be a backlash (mainly from so-called hockey moms and ditzy
stewardesses who haven’t been victims of rape or incest) and Obama will
lose. With less than 2 months to go, we can’t afford to let that
happen. - “Democrats, as people, are fundamentally more decent“. (Think
torture, homophobia, Katrina, global warming, welfare, cultural
arrogance.) I’ll let Janeane Garofalo take the heat for that one, but let’s face it, it’s hard being a Democrat! - If I’m a snob for
wanting to judge the intelligence level of someone who wants to live in
the White House, then so be it. This is NOT American Idol (or a beauty
pageant). - If John McCain is such a Constitutionalist, (Did you see Whoopi
Goldberg on “The View” ask him if slavery would come back if he was elected?),
then what happened to the separation of church and state?
- The
Democrats aren’t going to win this thing by pointing out that Jesus was
a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor! - I can only hope that if conservatives are truly honest with
themselves they will know that this woman cannot become vice
president. Far too much is at stake. - Last year police found 42 meth labs in Sarah Palin’s home county in
Alaska. Apparently small town values (like shooting animals with high
powered weapons from the air and forcing your pregnant daughter into a
doomed loveless marriage) are easier to stomach when you’re high.
There’s so much crystal meth in Wasilla, Alaska, I’m surprised the
Palin’s didn’t name one of their goofy kids “Tweaker”.
And finally, for those of you who think Americans shouldn’t care what the rest of the world thinks of us, please consider this:A new face for American diplomacy
Barack Obama is perceived by Muslims abroad like no other candidate.
He would begin a presidency with tremendous potential to heal U.S.
relations with much of the world.

When I was in Tehran, Iran, a year ago, I was asked by several senior
government officials, including former President Mohammad Khatami, what
to make of Barack Obama’s candidacy for president of the United States.
The young senator from Illinois was still barely on the international
radar then. My response was that I couldn’t see Americans nominating,
let alone electing, a black man whose middle name was Hussein. My
answer, clearly wrong in hindsight, stirred smiles and raised eyebrows
among the Iranian leaders because they’d had no idea that Obama had a
Muslim father. Even more surprising to them was that he carried,
apparently without shame, a Muslim name. From Khatami this elicited an
“Ajab!” — Farsi for, essentially, “You’ve got to be kidding!” There
were also many nods of agreement with my conclusion about Obama’s
chances. Read more… - McCain

The SNL clip is so hilarious! She is so convincing as Plain! The look.. the accent… the body gestures!! lol
loved the vid – as for the cast of characters in this election, there’s much to love and hate on both sides – at least from my perspective. neither side really excites me. peace, Al
I have to agree with pukemeister that there are most definately faults and not much to love on both sides! You know how I feel about Obama already. I posted some of my thoughts about your blog on my xanga just now!
I feel sad a bear was sacrificed to decorate the sofa on which Palin chose to sit.
Excellent blog by the way.
@Dezinerdreams - You left your rice here. I’ll meet you on the corner if you want :)
Thanks!
@pukemeister - Michigan’s an important state. I’m hoping you vote for Obama!
@bowzere - I have so much to say about the meth thing, but I’m too tired now. Have a great week!
@reckless_eagle - LOL, I know. That poor bear. The crab too
Decorating with roadkill, next on the DIY Network!
I still remain undecided – btw, you really should give Palin credit for her possitive points like being a better shot than Cheney! more peace, Al
While I laughed at the SNL skit (it was hilarious), I don’t want Obama to win the election by his supporters getting nasty. I know this is supposed to be in fun, but this is no laughing matter. I love you.
I enjoyed the sketch very much!! :)
@MlleRobillard - LOL

Most of the links reference who made the comments. While I agree that a few of them border on nasty, I don’t think they’re any worse than the racist rhetoric about Obama.
@pukemeister - Good point
@fratmom - Thanks…but I just want to clarify something. I didn’t write most of this stuff…I just gathered it all together. (OK, I made up Spruce Moose, LOL!)
@Socalj714 - I’m glad it made you smile Jayson!!
Carey –
The mean spirited ridiculous stuff you have listed here below shows
the evil underbelly of the liberal world that simply cannot deal with the
opposition having a person on the ticket who is so genuine and real, that
real Americans, the vast majority of us who live further than 30 miles
from either coast, embrace. Having Palin, a morally sound, service
to a greater goodness oriented, mother, wife, and citizen first, who happens
also, secondarily, to be an elected executive official, on the scene is
frightening to the arrogant left and exposes the immoral and/or illogical
basis of many of their ridiculous self based positions. More and
more it is clear to me, that liberalism is an immense arrogance. The
belief that one is clearly more intelligent that others that see things
differently and trusts in lessons of the past. Liberals believe they
naturally must be far more aware and intelligent than any other person
or generation that has come before simply by virtue of having existed now.
What they miss in conservative values is the humble realization
that history does time and time again repeat itself. That God exist,
and that serving others is a greater cause than serving oneself.
That most all of our contemporary challenges have been faced in similar
form many times before, and what has survived and persisted in our moralistic
Judeao / Christian traditions are those basis and beliefs that have stood
the test of time as real and true. The democratic candidate this
time more than ever, truly fits the bill of this crowd, loads of lofty
academia rhetoric, absent of any real accomplishment, substance, or demonstrated
moral courage / character. Obama supports infanticide – as he slammed
down the born alive protection act – now federal law – when it was raised
before him in committee in Illinois. Now the facade is caving in
and the Obama campaign lacking real substance will collapse on itself.
McCain / Palin 08 - Vote Pro-Life
- without the protection of all life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness, are not possible. Billy
@Billy - Hey Bill!
It’s late here in Orlando and I have to get up early, but
suffice it to say we will never agree on this. Even though some of it’s
mean spirited it’s no worse that the racist crap they’re peddling about
Obama, and there’s nothing here that isn’t true. The abortion thing is
rather unfair I think, but that’s an argument for another time.
Do me a favor and get the book Germs, Guns & Steel. I’d like to talk to you about it. Miss and love ya! :) –Carey
@CareyGLY - hahaha! You should have called me! Now you are in Florida!

Carey:
I like the mortar fire you launched at Sarah
Palin (I found it full of lies yet entertaining), although anyone with a College
Degree and has risen to the level of a state governor I would hardly call a
“category 5″ moron. I know drugs are a problem at finding 42 meth labs in
her county is a horrible statistic. I hope you aren’t blaming Palin for
that one? In Chicago in 2006 their were 468 murders, 15,863 armed
robberies and 17,445 aggravaed assaults; all told the amount of violent crime is
almost twice the national average. Is Barack to blame, I mean he is the
“community organizer” maybe he should organize the community not to
violently assault and murder each other. Try to keep the facts
straight…
Proud to be a registered REPUBLICAN in
a liberal California…
@Joel - LOL, touche Joel! I just compiled that stuff though. I linked all the sources.
Maybe it will change the mind of someone on the fence??
Did you read the comments? My friend Billy makes you look liberal.
Hug the boys for me. Good night from Orlando.
I can see Russia from my house !
@g1monkee - And I’d vote for you before SHE ever got my vote!!!
Hi Carey,
Loved seeing you this week. I’m a huge Jared Diamond fan – he’s on my “buy on sight” list.
Sarah Palin is frightening not because she’s stupid (she isn’t) or because she has a gun and likes to shoot. She’s frightening because she believes in banning books she doesn’t agree with. The foundation of our freedom is our first ammendment. And don’t give me any nonsense about the founding fathers not being able to forsee the kinds of books being published today. Thomas Jefferson was a genius. He could certainly imagine a time when books would contain frightening and offensive material. He authored the first ammendment precisely because he COULD imagine those books and didn’t want anyone to be able to control the free flow of information. Sarah Palin wants to limit that freedom. She has acted upon her desire to control the information available in her community. We should run screaming from the room every time someone proposes allowing this woman to have the power to control the free flow of information on a national level.
Joel, as a side note – I know lots of college graduates who qualify for the category 5 moron prize. The fact is that one can get a degree in TV viewing or underwater basketweaving from some institutions. And if you don’t believe that a governor can qualify you haven’t been paying attention to politics for the several years. Both Republicans and Democrats have given us some spectacular examples of frightening stupidity over the past decade or so.
