  • A New Fornia Family Member

Mike came home from his business trip on Sunday and we went to breakfast and celebrated his birthday.  I had a special gift for him as well.  His loft, has officially become the newest member of the “Fornia” family of luxury boutique hotels worldwide.  This honor, adds “The Hotel Mikeyfornia” to the pantheon of legendary resorts like The Hotel Careyfornia, in West Hollywood, CA.

Founder and General Manager of Fornia Hotels Ltd., Carey Anthony, surprising Mike on his birthday, with the news that his home is now a 5 Star Diamond “Fornia” property!

Here’s a short video tour of our San Diego flagship hotel, The Hotel Mikeyfornia

After breakfast we drove over to Coronado Island and the Hotel Del Coronado (a modest property by Fornia Ltd. standards).  While there, I found my next hotel investment:

We walked along the beach and took some video of the grounds, as well as our trip back over the bridge:

It was a picture perfect California day:

I had Vivek take this out the window while driving over the bridge at 60 mph.

On the way home we stopped in Mission Viejo for Darlene’s birthday celebration with my family.  Happy Birthday Dar!  Thanks to Mike for the accommodations.  Happy Birthday to you too!  xoxo

  • the sunny warmth looks good as the nip of fall tinges our days back in michigan.  does your hotel chain accept xanga credits?  given the collapse of the world economy without bush’s bailout, now’s the time to snap up those over priced properties at pennies on the dollar! – maybe even use your xanga credits to purchase a few!  peace, Al

  • Hehe, you are funny, sorry haven’t been in for so long, was really busy lately ( and will going to be, grrr…….)
Anyway. Glad to see you doing good

  • That
‘opening’ shot of Mikey in TOTAL surprise?    Well, beats me, but I
swear I thought you were going to say “Hotel Michellefornia”

    ))

[some memories never die!  I mean really, does that shot not just
scream “Michelle!”???   ... Tell Michelle — er Mike — I said hi ]

Meanwhile, would you believe [by now, of course you would] i am
STILLLLLLLL not done with final papers for summer term – of course i
had SEVEN of them to write!  and i AM on # 7 finally but oh my oh my –
what a term for being behind the 8-ball…

alas, i think the entire nation joined me.  What a mess [to paraphrase ole Bette] …

hope YOU are well – your friend Vivek is moving away somewhere?  I was just getting used to seeing him as your photo buddy

I’ve always wanted to take the kids to see Alvara Street, but I’m sure you know of 100′s of places that would top that for them! GLY!

  • @lv2skrp - Name the time and the place, and I’ll be there with bells on.  There are so many great places up here your kids would love.  Rest up….hope you’re feeling better! xo

that chandelier was nice too. nice of them to hang it there for you and put flowers there so you could
look especially nice in the photo. they think of everything.

wouldn’t you know? THAT song, money 3x has been going thru my head today. thanks for cementing it.:D

  • @ToTaLLy_PhAt - San Diego is a great city.  Easy public transportation with lots to do.  If you’re driving down, it’s easy to get around.  Otherwise, Amtrak will drop you off right downtown by the harbor and the hotels.  Here are a few other tips.
The Gaslamp District is where the nice restaurants and general night life are.
Old Town is known as the Birthplace of California and is definitely worth exploring.  (There are links to all of this info on my blog post from last weekend.)
You’ll also want to spend some time in Balboa Park.  It’s kind of San Diego’s version of Central Park.  The San Diego Zoo is also one of the best zoos in the country and worth a visit.
Try to head over the bridge to Coronado Island and walk around the Del Coronado Hotel grounds too.  As you can see from my videos, it’s gorgeous.
The San Diego harbor is also beautiful.  If you’re going to stay in a hotel, and cost isn’t an issue, I’d stay at one of the downtown or harborfront hotels, rather than the cheaper ones on hotel row.  But you can always just drive to the harbor too, and take a tour of one of the aircraft carriers or the Star of India.  The skyline from a boat is beautiful at sunset

The ballpark is right downtown too, if you’re into baseball.
If you go to Mexico, take the blue line trolley, don’t drive!  I wouldn’t recommend going to Mexico at night either.  Just do what we did….take the trolley to the border and hop in a cab to Avenida Revolucion.  It’s only $5.  (Agree on the price before hand!)  Walk around for a while, eat, and cab it back to the border.  American citizens need a Drivers License

    and

a passport or birth certificate now.  Next year, you’ll need a passport.

Hope that gives you an idea.  Let me know if you need me to elaborate on any of this.  Have fun!–
    Carey

  • @Sc12EeN17aM3 - LOL, I know, but I’ve always liked that song   xo

@razzlebash - There are worse songs that could be stuck in your head.  Billy Ray Cyrus comes to mind!  Doh!  I did it again
