Carey’s Hollywood Roundup & Canine Cajones
Oscar season is in full swing and we saw 7 movies this week! (Today was a triple feature. We walked to The Grove (to avoid parking fees for 7 hours) and saw three in a row! Haven’t done that in a long time, but it was fun.) Slumdog Millionaire is still my favorite of the year, but here’s a roundup of this week’s films. I still have to see Gran Torino & Revolutionary Road.
- The Boy in The Striped Pajamas – Good, but a bit contrived. Claudio liked it better than I did.
- The Day the Earth Stood Still – Horrible. Don’t waste your money.
- Valkyrie – We both enjoyed it more than we thought we would. A bit distorted, but gripping.
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – Saw this last night with Mica, and we both loved it. Brad Pitt is perfect in this role. Truly the Forrest Gump of this decade.
- Doubt – Meryl Streep has done it again. What range! It’s hard to believe she played such completely opposite roles in this movie and Mamma Mia in the same year. Both Oscar worthy!
- Seven Pounds – Will Smith is a powerhouse, but I’m not sure how I feel about this movie yet. I have to mull it over a little.
- Marley & Me – You can’t help but like this movie if you’re a dog lover, but it kind of makes me sorry I didn’t publish Oreo’s story before Marley’s got published. Oreo’s life was far more exciting, and would have made a great movie!
Speaking of Marley & Me, the best scene in the film was when Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson were taking Marley to be neutered. He jumped halfway out of the car window and walked on his two front legs as the car drove down a busy street. Coincidentally, we got Chazz neutered on Friday. He was too small to reenact that scene from the movie, so this is the best I could do:
Chazz came through the operation like a trooper. And no, we didn’t get him Neuticles!! What are Neuticles you ask??“Neuticles” are fake testicles for dogs. I love this quote from their website:
Neuticles allow your pet to retain his natural look, self esteem and aid in the trauma associated with neutering. With Neuticles – It’s like nothing ever changed!
I wonder how many Beverly Hills pooches actually have these? LOL Anyway, here are some photos of Chazz’s recovery and the rest of our holiday weekend!
A toast to Chazz’s last night of virility!

Neuticles? hm.. is it only for animals? i can they do that to people who got their testicles removed also?
@Sc12EeN17aM3 - Sure they can Jad. Don’t you watch Nip Tuck??
@CareyGLY - nope. i dont think i have the channel lol
Happy to hear Chazz is ok! What a face :)
so, are you gonna get the certificate framed and hung on his doghouse wall? i wonder if guys who have vasectomies get a certificate like that to hang on their bedroom walls? the day the earth stood still wasn’t that bad – not an oscar to be sure, but good entertainment! How could you afford 3 movies in one day??? – no popcorn??? and a farmer’s market in LA – just seems so contrived! peace, Al
lol @ Neuticles As though the dog would care by then :D Chazz is still looking cheerful after the neutering! Its amazing how dogs can stay so postitive after such painful experience. Gonna love them for that.
how can you guys live with yourselves!!! … smiling and carryin on with champagne when youre about to remove the little guy’s boys.
~shakes head in disgust
i used to like you … now i’m just so confused.
hey i submitted your africa letter post as one of my ten. maybe it’ll get picked. watched the front page. (see the “edit” to my latest post if this doesnt make sense.)
Did you really have to get it done?
@lv2skrp - Thanks. Hope Gibby can meet him some day!
And regarding affording 3 movies in a day, who said I paid for all 3?? Shhhhh.
@pukemeister - Shhh, the certificate framing is a surprise!
@Desert_Eagle_AE - Yeah, I know right. I can’t imagine such a frivolous company could survive in this economy.
@curtainsopen - Wow! Thanks for the vote of support. That’s great that Xanga took your idea. My idea was the first one they actually accepted: Getting rid of that annoying “subscribe to” popup for non-xangans. http://xd4.xanga.com/283f240417234224877766/w176731537.jpg Thanks again. Oh, and regarding Chazz, since he was a shelter dog, we had to
@Dezinerdreams - Yep, we did. It’s the law. He came from a shelter.
i’m opposite of you in that i loved the day the earth stood still. i even wished it was longer. LOL
your photo of chazz in the marley role was very funny and cute.
the sunsets were pretty. i guess there is no ugly sunset.
a thai elvis why not. hehe.
the farmers market christmas tree was very beautiful.
@razzlebash - I thought the original movie of TDTESS was better, but oh well
Some sunsets are definitely prettier than others. We had rain last week, which washed all the smog away. Smog usually makes the sunsets prettier, so the other day was unusual!
@pukemeister - That Farmer’s Market has been there since 1932!
@CareyGLY - LOL smog makes sunsets prettier. the facts are the facts tho.
@CareyGLY - no wonder, it’s a throwback!
I doubt if my town will get the movie Slumdog Millionaire. Its a small town and movies like that do not do well.I will have to wait to see it either in Chicago or St.Louis or wait till it comes out on DVD.
You have such a beautiful view of the LA downtown. The pictures are beautiful.
@ZSA_MD - If you hurry, you can still catch the 6:50 show at the Kerasotes Springfield Parkway!
Make your husband buy you a large popcorn too. LOL

It’s only 2 hours away!
Funny. I like that.
Hey.
I like your page. Your blogs are pretty interesting. :)
Neuticles? Wtf?
If Chazz knew you were blogging about his operation and showing him off like that – I’m sure he’ll be taking a big bite of some sensitive body part. (which may require neuticles)
@livelife1111 - Thanks. How did you find me? Do I know you? Happy New Year.
@ElusiveWords - How do you know Chazz didn’t want his pictures out there?? Maybe he paid me, just like the tabloids pay the movie stars for their baby pictures! There’s no such thing as bad publicity, and this is Hollywood!!
Marley and me was such a good movie. hahaha love the photo! :) woo hoo back to the grove again! lol
Neuticles reminded me of this article [link]
Not actually because of the article (well, maybe sorta), but because of a comment I read afterwards — “what good is an aesthetic penis if it doesn’t work?”
@aliceandrandy - Thanks Alice. Happy New Year to you and Randy.
@torontobabyblue - Youch!!! LOL. A lot of those comments were actually pretty funny. Thanks for the link.
while i understand the reasons behind neuturing one’s own pet dog, i don’t approve the act of multilation.
one of my son’s christmas gifts was your friend’s dvd. he is 12 and loved it. he solved it that day. he was so excited.
@reckless_eagle - I certainly understand your feelings. Due to the pet overpopulation problem though, it’s the law here in America that when you adopt a dog or a cat from a shelter that you must get them neutered or spayed. Otherwise they won’t allow you to adopt the pet. And if no one adopts them, they are killed after 90 days in many cases. So poor Chazz, who was abandoned at birth, didn’t have much of a choice. I can assure you that the vet we chose was a good one. He was under general anesthesia and had an IV drip. He was well cared for.
@sorrowfulheart@fiddletfm- Really!? That’s wonderful. Tell him congratulations!! Maybe we’ll see him at the next event! I’ll let Tyson know. Thanks. Happy New Year.
@sorrowfulheart - Not sure if you got the last reply, but thanks. I’ll let Tyson know. Congrats to your son. What an accomplishment!
i got it. my premium expired so my protected list is not showing up. i am going to renew tomorrow. i know i put you on it. i only post protected because of my kids….
Haha! I saw Marley & Me today! It was better than I thought it was going to be, but I feel that some aspects should’ve been explored more. In other words: good, but not great.
I also went to see Despereaux with my little niece. Great animation, but the story was eck! And I’m sad that The Day the Earth Stood Still wasn’t to your liking. Now I’m not sure if I should go see it!
@arEms - Yeah, I agree with you about Marley. The book was much better. And you may like TDTESS. I think the original was better their too. I thought Keanu Reeves was dull and he had no chemistry with Jennifer Connelly. Oh well. Happy New Year!
Oh poor Chazz. Just hope he didn’t use his ‘satelite dish’ to call alien reinforcement from Planet K9-XYZ for revenge.
certificate of sterility – that’s a riot
@free2chuze - LOL, that made me laugh out loud! Planet K9-XYZ
Happy New Year.
@sethrocker - I thought that was pretty funny too. I never got one of those with Oreo!
“Gran Torino” was really good. Clint Eastwood is very moving. I smell Oscar for him. If you starred in “Marley” with Jenn Aniston, instead of annoying Owen Wilson, I would go see it for sure!
@jasonbasin - Do you think Clint was better than Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button? Clint always seems to have the same look on his face! And you’re right. How did Owen Wilson become a movie star with that mug!
Happy New Year!!
poor chaz. why would you guys have him neutered? can’t you guys just let him grow up to be all that he could be? and Neuticles??? hhmm…. i’ve said this before and i’m going to say it again… “only in california!!”
@rudyhou - When you get a dog from a shelter, you have to have him neutered. It’s the law!
Happy New Year Rudy.
