  • Cheesy Anniversary

We celebrated Christine & Drew’s 7th Anniversary today with a trip to the Tillamook Cheese factory; the most romantic cheese factory on the Oregon coast.  LOL.  A fun time was had by all!  Lunch at the Pelican Brewery followed by sunset with Eva & Yolanda who had since arrived at the beach house.  Talking and laughing into the wee hours again.  Good times.

  • Xangalebrities – How Do They Do It?

I just want to say that I have new found respect for Xanga superstars like Chris and Dan.  I thought I was good at time management, but I could never keep up the pace of responding to hundreds of comments a day on my blog entries.  I have no idea how they do it.  I have received over 70 comments about my Idol photos from Iceland to Islip, Slovenia to Sarasota and it’s not even half of what those guys get on a daily basis!.  It’s amazing how far reaching this show has become.  It’s also amazing to me how many people check the Xanga front page for Featured Content.  I almost never do that.  There are some interesting things out there.

In just the two hours I was gone for dinner tonight, my Footprints went from 2000 to over 2400.  I’m not sure what I ended the day with, but this has been by far my busiest Xanga day to date.

    tw

A bunch of Idol Forums and Asian and European fan sites published my photos (stole them actually, but kept the watermark and linked to my site, which is cool).  I’m now contending with a myriad of teenage girls who for some reason think I have David Archuleta on speed dial #3 (Sorry, Jason Castro’s on #2)    Even the official American Idol website, featured my “hot scoop” about the winner and the tramp, with various tweens weighing in on the scandal!  LOL.

An Israeli site also linked to me, though I didn’t know until checking the Google hits, as I don’t read Hebrew!

And then there were the Google searches that people used to get to my site.  This one caught my eye:
    Referring URL http://www.google.co…huleta&start=20&sa=N
    Search Engine google.com
Search Words “a beating” david archuleta
    Visit Entry Page   http://www.xanga.com/CareyGLY

Hmmm…somehow I have a feeling they weren’t talking about a beating from David Cook.  Paging Child Welfare!  Even the Claymates got into the act!

At any rate, I won’t be quitting my day job any time soon.  Perez Hilton  and Just Jared need not worry.  LOL

Eva & Jessie checked in to the Hotel Careyfornia tonight and we braved the unusual California rain showers and had a delightful evening:

Yes, they’re holding 12 fingers up in front of the 12 Step Store (a place for “recovery” gifts).  LOL

    The ubiquitous Pinkberry visit

We retired back to the HC to watch Haider on “This American Life

Good night from Hollywood.  Thanks for all of the comments and emails!  I appreciate all the kind words!  –Carey

    your garage???

    On the
Idol memo that arrived with the tix — NO camera, cellphones, video

also, dress code is “concert” attire – no tshirts, hats, shorts, jeans!!!

One of my favorite books is coming to the big screen, and guess who’s playing the title character?  It’s funny.  The whole time I was watching Narnia/Prince Caspian, I felt his looks were just too distracting.  Who better then, to play Dorian Gray!?   From BuzzSugar:

Right on the heels of starring in
the No. 1 movie at the box office, Ben Barnes has landed another gig — and it’s a doozy. The adorable Prince Caspian will play the title character in a film adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Oliver Parker
is “planning to make a visceral, dark horror story and says the themes
of stardom are as relevant as ever.”

That was my immediate thought as well, that the book’s themes of
vanity and the desire for everlasting youth and beauty seem to be
incredibly relevant to today’s world (especially in American society,
though Dorian Gray does not take place in America). I had to
read this novel in college and I’m so glad I did. It’s a riveting — and
often scary — read. If you haven’t read it, this is the plot description:
“Dorian Gray is a young man of impossible physical beauty whose
portrait — painted by the artist Basil Hallward — becomes connected on
an occult level with the workings of his soul. Drawn into a corrupt and
sensual life by the dissolute Lord Henry Wotton, Dorian remains young
and beautiful, while the painting ages in his stead, ultimately
    becoming a monstrosity.”

Have you read this work by Oscar Wilde? What do you think of this movie news?  Source and source

Here are the last of the weekend photos:

This pretty much sums up the weekend

There was a fire off the 101 on the way home.  If you look at the full size version of this photo, you can see the flames.  I just snapped it while driving by.  There’s a helicopter above you can’t see.  The temperature was 100°.

  • A Runaway Bride in the Weekend Photoblog.

Riley woke me up at 8:30 this morning after 3 hours of sleep, by jumping on the couch and licking my face.  Once everyone else woke up, we took him to the beach for a swim then walked to brunch at Tupelo Junction.  We then headed up to the courthouse for some photos.  It was so hot this afternoon, we went to see Prince Caspian/Narnia.  After that we went back to the beach for sunset, then for a nice late dinner at a new Italian restaurant down the street.  Here are some photos:

  • Pulling Mussels From A Shell

We got some mussels from the rocks behind the house today.  Preparing them and (me) eating them was an experience in and of itself, as this video will attest.  It’s 4:10 AM and I got home a little while ago.  Work early.  8 AM Conference Call!  Off to bed.  Have a good week!

A Year in the Life of Friends

    Mon, Apr 14, 2008 at 3:15 AM
As our far flung group continues to evolve and grow, our annual New Year’s sojourns
have become many mini reunions throughout the year.  The latest this past weekend
in Pacifica, was graciously hosted by Tom, Cathy & Patrick at their beach front estate.
The weather was unbelievable (high 80′s) and little Patrick provided me with many
spectacular photo opportunities.  Many of you joined us via Skype video and we were
happy to share the sun and surf with you!

The Hotel Careyfornia has also been extremely busy this year, but we still have good
rooms available, so give us a call to book your travel plans now.

  • Daylights, Sunsets, Midnights & Cups of Coffee

Here’s a video that starts with last night’s sunset.  Little Patrick kept plopping himself down right in front of the sun, and I kept moving him.  Afterwards, you can see Marcelo playing soccer with Patrick and finally me goofing around, all set to the theme song of our international group of friends.

  • 26 Miles of Moslems, Santa Rapists & Gay Idols

Well, this election just keeps getting more and more exciting.  I’m secretly hoping for a Clinton/Obama ticket, though that seems unlikely.  I do still stand by what I said a few weeks ago.  Although, on the surface it appears that America has a new black friend, last night proved (in Texas and Ohio of all places) that we’re not quite yet ready to hit the delete button on Hillary.

Speaking of the Lone Star Asylum (sorry James), I had a conversation yesterday with someone from Texas who told me they could never vote for a black Moslem.  (Yes, Moslem, not even Muslim.)  The conversation ended when the person insisted that George W. Bush had done his job by keeping us safe the past 8 years.  I kid you not.  This is the kind of thinking we’re up against!

Even Obama’s gay ad didn’t help him in Texas!  Hmm, I wonder why??

Enough about politics though.  The only election most Americans care about of course is the election of the next American Idol.    Is it my imagination or is this the gayest season yet (even more than last year!)?  Danny Noriega makes Clay Aiken (Gayken) look like Bruce Springsteen.  Ryan Seacrest actually sounds butch next to some of these guys.

Gay friends have already emailed me “fan fiction” depicting a love affair between David Archuleta and Jason Castro that isn’t exactly blog friendly.  LOL.  That said, Jason’s was my favorite performance last night (minus the cheesy intro).  I’ve always loved this song (though Damien Leith covered it better on Australian Idol last year).

He needs to cut the stoner act though.  It will get old, just like David Archuleta’s giggling.

Is Santa Claus a rapist??  Ask Danny Noriega:

    Paging Emo Elmo!
I’ll just be happy tomorrow if they get rid of Amanda!

Congratulations to my friend Steve who finished the LA marathon this weekend (his first).  Here are some of my photos from Canh’s marathon:

  • Leaping Back

Since I got my Canon G9, I’m having trouble remembering to take it with me everywhere.  I used to carry my SD800 in my pocket wherever I went.  I could easily fit my camera, a small tripod, and everything I needed in my cargo pants pockets.  I need to find a casing for the G9, that’s durable and light.  Then, “Is that a G9 in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?” will be the standard greeting I receive.

I won’t be on Xanga until at least next Tuesday or Wednesday.  After Tuesday, things should be back to normal, and I’ll be back home.  Since I won’t get to take pictures this leap year, I decided to post these photos from last February 29th when Eva was visiting and we went to an Annie Leibovitz exhibit at the Pacific Design Center.  Afterwards, we met some friends at the Sky Bar.  Hard to believe it was four years ago (or was it one??).  Have a great weekend everyone!

    THIS JUST IN:

Happy Leap Day!  Oh, and don’t forget to set your calendars ahead one day!

  • All is Quiet on New Year’s Day

What does GLY stand for?  I can’t really tell you, but know that it means good friends, good food, the ocean waves crashing in the back yard and the stars shining bright.  At midnight the GLY Gang partook in several different traditions from various countries where we’ve all celebrated New Years in in the past.  Though we didn’t jump into the ocean backwards 12 times as we did in Brazil a few years ago, we did eat 12 grapes under the table while making 12 wishes.  We also all walked around the block with suitcases to ensure a year of wonderful safe travels.  I’ve been feeling a little under the weather, so I laid down shortly after midnight and didn’t wake up until this morning.  Patrick’s little friend Joaquin came over this morning and we all played.  Today we are all just laying around and watching movies and relaxing.  What a fabulous way to begin the year.  Happy New Year to all!

    No pomegranate martinis for Patrick!

Mariana looking gorgeous as usual…Patrick agreeing

Eva enjoying her midnight grapes immensely

    The next American Idol

    Best of the rest

All is quiet on New Year’s Day
A world in white gets underway
I want to be with you
Be with you night and day
Nothing changes on New Year’s Day
    On New Year’s Day

I will be with you again
I will be with you again

    Under a blood red sky
A crowd has gathered in black and white
    Arms entwined, the chosen few
    The newspapers says, says
    Say it’s true it’s true…
    And we can break through
    Though torn in two
    We can be one

    I…I will begin again
    I…I will begin again

    Oh…
    Maybe the time is right
    Oh…maybe tonight…

I will be with you again
I will be with you again

And so we’re told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you
Be with you night and day
    Nothing changes
    On New Year’s Day

  • New Year’s Eve Eve

It was a beautiful, bright, clear day in San Francisco today.  We’re watching a movie now, so I’ll just let the pictures and video do the talking.  Happy New Year! –Carey
